First, you can apply to have the characterization of your discharge upgraded to honorable. This doesn&#39;t always work well, but it is a possibility that you can consider. The second option only applies to non-government jobs. You can simply not put your service on your resume. A 6 month gap on your resume isn&#39;t necessarily a problem for a lot of employers. If you were to get a degree, they generally won&#39;t care at all. If they ask about the gap, be honest. Generally speaking, most employers won&#39;t ask, especially if you&#39;re under 20. For government employment, they will ask about military service and you can&#39;t lie on a government form. If you do, you can be charged with a crime. Resumes get you to an interview. They are a piece of paper that tells the story of your educational and work experience. Being employed for 6 months and being discharged is merely a flag for an interviewer to ask about the circumstances. They may ask for your DD-214. Whatever you say must agree with your paper or you have a lie that can come back to haunt you. When I was a senior Civil Service type, we occasionally had a case of termination for cause over a lie during the hiring process. We look for those things as easy outs when the employee isn&#39;t what we thought they&#39;d be. CAPT Kevin B. Based on your “over 180 days” you must have completed your initial entry training and washed out during your occupational specialty training. I see under your name it lists you as a verified veteran. You are not. You are a civilian that tried out for the Air Force and didn’t make the team. You do not belong here. 1SG Private RallyPoint Member Mon, 22 Oct 2018 18:18:58 -0400 2018-10-22T18:18:58-04:00 Response by TSgt Private RallyPoint Member made Oct 30 at 2018 8:34 PM https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/what-can-i-do-to-make-my-service-sound-better-than-it-looks-on-paper?n=4087671&urlhash=4087671 <div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>I used to hire people at a security company, and I&#39;ll tell you that honestly went a long way.
