What can I expect as an 88M at Camp Walker? How do I go through the process of getting housing and all set up there?

It's been along time but I believe you need to get command sponsorship to bring your wife and dogs to korea. How long is your tour there?

You may wish to check with your new Unit but I'm not sure a PV2 with no dependence except two dogs will be allowed housing, you may be required to live in a barracks.

CPL Private RallyPoint Member assuming you are command sponsored, you need to get your sponsor on the phone and have a conversation. You'll need to coordinate temp lodging between them and the housing people. If you can doing a housing application in advance, they'll have your info and be looking for what is available. You won't be able to drive right away unless you have a USFK license. That will take a few weeks. Again, your sponsor will be key.

Make sure when you do your levy briefing you inform reassignments that you are electing to serve a “With Dependents Tour”. If you haven’t already done so, make sure you get your spouse scheduled for an EFMP Screening, the firm she’ll need to take with her to that appt is a DA Form 5888 (check with reassignments, they should be able to provide this firm to you). The appointment usually takes the longest to get hence the reason why you want to get it scheduled ASAP. You should be able to call the appt line to schedule for the EFMP Screening. Once that is complete and signed off/cleared by the provider, submit the form to reassignments so they can submit to housing in Korea to check for availability of housing. It usually takes 3-5 days to return from housing. If housing will be available within 60days, then your spouse will be able to travel with you. If it takes longer than 60days, you’ll have deferred travel for your spouse until you can get housing in Korea. The key is starting early to ensure your spouse can travel with you. You will also have to get your spouse a “no fee passport” issued by the government. You won’t be able to apply until your command sponsor comes back approved so make sure you start as soon as possible taking care of the things I mentioned above.

Now as far as your pets go, you need to check with reassignments and/or transportation. There are specific guidelines for taking pets to Korea and the process can take anywhere from 90-180 days depending upon the time of year you travel, so again start now with gathering the information.
