What can I expect in the process of getting a service dog (to help with anxiety and other issues)?

I volunteer for "I Got Your Six Support Dogs" it takes about year. Home must be fit (including other dogs; could possibly be turned down if current dogs are not fit for a service dog in the home). In my state, all a person needs is a note from a doctor in order for the dog to be a service dog. A psych eval will be done, income will be looked at, ability to care for the dog, and the environment the dog will be living in will be looked out. You are then put on the waiting list. Once the dog is borned and trained, our company brings the soon to be owner to a mandatory two week class where the owner will learn how to train the dog to meet the owner's cues. The dog will be trained but if you do not keep up with training the dog, especially with other dogs in the home, the dog will forget its training. We have a couple groups that meet a couple times a week where I live to keep up on training with the dog.

You can also look into possibly getting one of your own dogs depending on age and temperament to be trained as a service dog.

A year is a long time to wait. I love dogs. My 90lb German Shepherd female listens to me only when I raise my voice. Otherwise, she gets away with murder. But, I don't care. Man! I love that dog!
