I know a lot of civilian employers tout being "military-friendly" or "vet friendly", and this is great, but I know from my perspective I feel more confident when I talk with a veteran who has gone through the process themselves. That makes me feel "OK, they did it, it worked for them, and when the time comes I can too".

I would also agree that giving back to a community with volunteerism or community service, or working with veterans' organizations (for example, VFW or American Legion membership) is also a great way to help.
