What Chapter of the G.I. Bill does the members of the Active Guard Reserve qualify for?

Montgomery GI Selected Reserve (MGIB-SR) applies to drilling soldiers while they are still in a TPU status.

Active Guard Reserve Soldiers are on active duty but in the reserves. Do they qualify for the Post 9/11 GI bill after their service?

I would think they do, if they are ACTIVE guard reserve, the key word being active, they should fall under the same chapter 33 eligibility, I would recommend talking with a retention NCO or a VA representative for further guidance, we have many retention and recruiters here on RP, active and reserve/NG who could probably give more detailed and better answers. Check the RP search engine for members and maybe contact them directly for guidance/advice.

AGRs are eligible for the post 9-11 GI Bill, depending on when you came on tour and if you were deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan. To verify if you are eligible, call you local education office who can help you with your education options. As a AGR, I am using the Post 9-11 GI Bill for a PhD. Hope this helps.

AGRs would also qualify for the Chapter 30 (active duty) GI Bill as the initial AGR tour is at least 3 years.

I believe at one time they were allowing for enrollment during AGRET, but I'm not certain that practice has continued. I've known at least 1 AGR recruiter who signed up for it on his initial tour.

When I came on tour, I already had the 30, but I did the buy up (complete waste of $600 for those switching to post 9/11).

There some unusual circumstances where the chapter 30 may be more advantageous than the 33.
