Well sigs are originally from Germany and Glock from Austria tho they have plants in America but if we are talking rifles Remington makes some excellent rifles and pistols I would have to say Glock these pistols can take a beating and be buried in sand and still rife accurately

Is best represented by number of guns sold, the most models in a line up, the least amount of warranty claims or maybe the manufacturer who has the most guns in rap videos? It's like asking what movie is the best or what team will win the World Series this fall, etc. There is so much that must be considered as to what firearm is the best. What is the intended use and in what climate? Hand size and feel to the buyer will play a part, what is the shooter's history, Military, Law Enforcement, hunter, and the list goes on. That question is like asking a Westpac sailor which bar was the best in the Olongapo, PI, or what is the best liberty port! But those questions would result is some hot responses! Me I loved Olongapo and will leave it at that...for now!

I would say this is a loaded question. Rather than going off half-cocked and opining on different guns, I'll stick to the facts and experiences based on my collection. Most of my guns work without fail, but I have a Windham Weaponry AR that fails to eject and a Sig Scorpion that had a trigger that hung so bad it had to go to a gunsmith right out of the box, so that Sig certainly wouldn't make the cut. A Ruger LCP and a Sig P 250 are tied for the worst trigger pulls, so they won't make the cut either. I have some Springfield Arms XDs, SA 1911, Ruger wheel guns, Ruger 1911, Remington 550 and a Glock 27 that all work flawlessly, have good ergonomics, good triggers, good sights and accuracy that's probably better than my ability.

So many other choices out there that are better like Springfield, Kimber, Christensen Arms, FNH, Wilson Arms ect..... Remington quality has decreased significantly, Ruger and S&W are mediocre, Glock is over priced and Sig is Over hyped.

I have no earthly idea who is best. Some criteria would have to be provided to make any kind of determination. I like what I have.
However, the discussion thread photo reminds me of Barrett Firearms Manufacturing. Barrett's headquarters and manufacturing facility is near my home (a mere 36 miles away), so I thought I'd show some photos of the facility since I drive past it frequently. Barrett is located just south of Murfreesboro, TN, on the east side of I-24W.

FNH. They may not have brought us the FAL, but they do manufacture the M4 in SC. I must say I prefer theirs over the colt. They did bring the Scar into service for us though, and the FNX was one of the military pistol competitiors.
Had it not been a publicity race, they would have easily overtaken the SIG M17.

Only Ruger and Remington are full line gun manufacturers, and Remington doesn't make Revolvers, so only Ruger a complete line. I think it would depend on what type of firearm I'm looking to buy. Combat Shotgun, Benelli, Mossberg and Remington all deserve a look. Bolt Action Rifles, Ruger, Remington and Weatherby. Military/Modern Rifles, Colt, Springfield, Ruger does an OK job, but a lot of the non National makers do just as well. Double Action Revolver, first choice would be a Smith. Single Action Revolvers, Ruger rules the roost there. If I just had loads of money to spend on a sporting shotgun, a Browning, Benelli or a Beretta would be where I would spend by money. If you are just talking pistol makers, all these are OK. Truthfully, if I bought a new 45 ACP or 9MM, the Smith M&P M2.0 would get my money.

Hmm, of the five listed, only three are American companies. That being said, they're all good in their niche. I don't particularly like striker fired weapons, so that rules out Glock (ruled out by default for not being American anyway). Sig really does make very high quality pistols, but not of a design that I prefer (and still not American). S&W makes the best revolvers in the industry if that's your thing. Remington is on top for their hunting rifles and shotguns. Ruger dominates in the rimfire realm. It all comes down to what you like. I've been carrying around an original Baby Desert Eagle with a polymer semi-compact frame and polygonal barrel in 9mm for many years now, and have yet to find anything out there that could possibly replace it. Magnum Research has changed their design to what I consider to be an inferior product and it's difficult to get the similar (original) Jericho 941 here in the states. Since we're considering companies who have factories and deal in the states, then my vote would really have been for IWI. But for this list, I'd have to go for Ruger. Good old fashioned American gun company with a stick it to the man attitude. From their 10/22 to their Mini-30 to their Vaquero to their Precision Rifle. They really are one of the best out there.

Hmm. No Mossberg. In terms of pure utility a 12 gauge 500 or 590 are hard to beat. Helluva good game getter, defensive weapon, and close quarters assault weapon. No to mention the fact that they have tons of accessories. Mossberg also makes some extremely good rifles. And none of their arms are over priced. Reliability, durability and affordability. Hard to beat.

That is a loaded question. I am not going to take a Sig to shoot skeet. My Remington 820 is a top shooter. It depends on the gun, and the function you need. My Glock 21 shoots better for me, than my son-in-laws Sig. However the Sig is better for him. A Smith & Wesson 500 will almost break your hand when you shoot it. However a .50 Dessert Eagle (Made in USA by CAR Fire Arms) still has kick, but won't hurt the crap out of your hand when shooting allowing for better accuracy. The question should be, "What is the best .45 or .357?"

Perhaps the question would have been better stated as the best handgun manufacturer since Glock doesn't produce long guns. Further division should be delineated since both Glock and Sig Sauer are European companies. Going even further, one could argue over semi-auto versus revolver. I've been a shooter for over 50 years and an FFL licensee and shooting sports business owner for just over 25 of those years. Of these companies, Ruger has to be the best overall gun manufacturer "in America". They produce fine accurate long guns, among the most accurate and rugged revolvers, and have outstanding customer service, although their semi-auto pistols may not be most accurate they are very serviceable and dependable. Remington's long guns are excellent for the most part, but their late entry into the handgun market is shakey at best except for their 1911. Smith & Wesson makes very good handguns but until their entry into the AR15 style rifles, their long guns were made by others under license. They have good customer service and an outstanding custom shop. Glock deserves honorable mention due to reliability but accuracy is not on par with others in this group. While they are well represented in action shooting, they have next to no representation in bullseye competition. Sig Sauer makes a fine semi-auto pistol and is also well represented in action shooting. They are also overall the most expensive in this group but do not produce revolvers or have representation in bullseye competition. Manufacturers not represented in bullseye competition can't very well lay claim to "most accurate". In the hunting market, only Ruger and Smith & Wesson are represented. So it would appear the "best gun manufacturer in America" would boil down to one of those two.

There is no "best". As far as handguns are concerned Glock, S&W, Sig, HK, rtc ate all the same. It really comes down to which pistols ergonomics fit your hand. Pretty much the same with rifles. For every review trashing a Mossberg Patriot there's another that says it's the best rifle they've ever shot.

Well let's see, snipers like the barrier or Remington depending on their mission preference. Everyday military personnel all services like the old worn out 45 or the Barrera 9mm cause they don't know anything else. Then you get into the exotics depending on what your mission. Me, I like the browning 12 gauge for wide pattern dispersal, the Remington bel 700 30.06 for range and a glock. 40 which has the same brick thru a window effect as the old .45. People prefer other brands but these have been my preferred choices. Haven't let me down yet.

If you go with quality for what's offered straight out of the box, Sig Sauer.
If you look at aftermarket dominance, glock.
Remington and ruger are classics, but nothing great that really sets them apart.
Smith and Wesson makes some solid fire arms, but they can be beat by other manufacturers almost across the board for comparable price points.
Personal opinions I guess though.

The military, and many policing agencies do a lot of research when choosing sidearms, so just discover what your local sheriff's office uses, and I am sure you'll select a nice pistol. Keep in mind a lot of cops carry Glock, and they are not American. I personally like Ruger.

For me. Totally a personal opinion item. I will say that I really love my Sig 1911, but I love my Springfield Armory 1911 MC Operator more. It also depends on whether it is revolver, pistol, rifle or shotgun. Is it bolt action, lever action, modem sporting rifle or other semi auto.
For me, my favourite bolt action is Savage. Revolver - Smith & Wesson. Lever action- Henry, MSR - Springfield Armory, ... as for pistols, have yet to find a Ruger I liked. Glock is very good, but definitely not my go toand the only Remington I have experience with is a shot gun manufactured in 1958.

I work as a civilian Armed i carry for a duty weapon rock island .45 acp. With that said. I showed up to a new company had to register my weapon.. my box was locked i handed them the key they opened it looked at me looked at the weapon specifically said compared to the weapons we get in here sig and other mfg. I had a rifle built by Noreen Firearms in Belgrade Montana. It was an AR platform .30-06. I could drive tacks with it at 200 yards and it had less kick than an M4. I took several deer well beyond 500 yards before I got hard up for cash and sold it. I wish I still had it.
