What courses should I take on ALMS, or JKO, to better myself as a soldier/ 14G? https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/what-courses-should-i-take-on-alms-or-jko-to-better-myself-as-a-soldier-14g

Wed, 24 Aug 2016 11:39:11 -0400 What courses should I take on ALMS, or JKO, to better myself as a soldier/ 14G? https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/what-courses-should-i-take-on-alms-or-jko-to-better-myself-as-a-soldier-14g

SSG Private RallyPoint Member Wed, 24 Aug 2016 11:39:11 -0400 2016-08-24T11:39:11-04:00 Response by SPC Private RallyPoint Member made Aug 24 at 2016 1:35 PM https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/what-courses-should-i-take-on-alms-or-jko-to-better-myself-as-a-soldier-14g?n=1832836&urlhash=1832836

I would hit up all the basic ones like Driving Safety, Anti-Terrorism, SHARP, etc. Then try and find ones related to your MOS or something that your unit does. Like me for example I'm in S-1, I'm legal and don't know much about 42A but I'm trying to learn some of it.

Then if you get done with all that and if you're finished with SSD1 I'd just starting doing random ALMS that peak your interest in your spare time.

I'd link up with an NCO though, they might have better suggestions for you.

Also make copies of any of the certs you complete. You're ADA as I am so you'll be hitting those up harder than a senior citizen at the bingo hall.

Start early with trying to max your correspondence courses. I'd look to your senior soldiers who are working towards getting promoted who might know which classes give the best point / time ratio to get that number up there.

You'll need do it anyway because once you're done with SSD1 and you stay current on that 350-1 your first line ought to start hammering you about those hours anyway and you should see it as a magic bullet in your developmental counselings.

Makes you look boss when you look at trying to go to the promotion board / BLC.

EDIT: Never seen a JKO / ALMS or otherwise online course training material that would actually make you "better at your MOS" that's going to come down to just doing your job. I'd suggest searching words relating to leadership and communication. Otherwise, there's also plenty on Skillport. While you aren't a 25-series, taking some of their courses could help the most. CompTIA A+ and Network+ are good starts. As well as Cisco basic courses. They are bland, but they teach you how some of your equipment (switches, routers, networks) work, but how to fix and integrate them better.
