Because aside from the VA and DFAS for retirement pay, my life is not a "veteran experience" it is just.... life.

I would love to see the VA bring back their travel kiosks, but that is never going to happen, since they just got rid of them in an "upgrade."

I think the VA can do a better job of tracking appointments. They like to cancel mine via voicemail, with no follow up. I am a forgetful person, so when I get the voicemail at 7 PM when I get out of work, I can't re-schedule - and I forget about it for months. An automated tool on their end to send me a reminder e-mail or reminder text to schedule appointment - or to tell their scheduler to call me and try to re-schedule would be great.

Same for my CPAP supplies. When I was still in, I got a shipment every single month. New filter, new face cup. Every 6 months, new headgear, new secondary filter, new tube. No reason VA cannot do the same. Many of these brave men and women return home from service carrying the invisible scars of their experiences. Unfortunately, a significant number of veterans face barriers in accessing consistent and effective mental health care. As a society, we owe it to our veterans to provide them with the support they need and deserve. One solution to address this pressing issue is the establishment of a veteran service that allows them to seek therapy at any local facility, at no cost. By offering accessible and long-term therapy through a convenient phone application, we can help veterans overcome the challenges they face and address the root causes of their mental illnesses.

The Current Challenge:
Veterans often experience a range of mental health issues directly related to their service, including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, anxiety, and substance abuse. These conditions can have a profound impact on their daily lives, leading to isolation, loneliness, and deteriorating relationships. Unfortunately, many veterans face significant obstacles when trying to access the care they desperately need. Long waiting times, limited resources, and financial constraints can hinder their ability to receive consistent therapy. This results in a vicious cycle where the underlying problems are left unaddressed, exacerbating their mental health struggles.

The Benefits of a Comprehensive Veteran Service:
Implementing a veteran service that provides access to therapists at any local facility, completely free of charge, would be a game-changer. Here are some of the key benefits:

1. Accessibility: By utilizing a phone application for booking appointments, veterans can easily access therapy services from anywhere, eliminating geographical barriers. This approach allows them to receive care without having to travel long distances or face transportation challenges, ensuring more veterans can access therapy when they need it.

2. Long-term Care: Providing veterans with the opportunity for long-term therapy establishes a consistent support system. This consistency is essential for addressing the root causes of their mental illnesses and fostering sustained healing and recovery.

3. Reducing Stigma: Offering therapy through a dedicated service for veterans helps destigmatize mental health issues within the military community. It sends a powerful message that seeking help is not a sign of weakness but a courageous step towards healing and well-being.

4. Holistic Approach: Comprehensive mental health services would not only focus on therapy but also encompass a wide range of treatment options. This could include access to support groups, medication management, and additional resources tailored to the unique needs of veterans. By taking a holistic approach, we can provide veterans with a well-rounded support system to address their mental health concerns effectively.

Supporting Our Veterans:
Establishing a comprehensive veteran service requires collaboration between government entities, healthcare providers, and mental health organizations. Key steps to ensure the success of such a service include:

1. Government Investment: Governments should allocate adequate funding to develop and maintain the infrastructure required for the phone application and the therapy services. This investment would demonstrate a commitment to supporting our veterans and their mental health needs.

2. Collaboration with Mental Health Professionals: Partnering with mental health professionals who have experience working with veterans is crucial. Their expertise will help tailor therapy approaches to the unique challenges faced by those who have served in the armed forces.

3. Raising Public Awareness: Public awareness campaigns can help dispel myths surrounding mental health in the military and promote the importance of seeking therapy. Education initiatives can foster understanding, empathy, and support for our veterans.

Conclusion:
Our veterans have made significant sacrifices for our country, and it is our responsibility to ensure their well-being when they return home. By implementing a comprehensive veteran service that offers accessible and long-term therapy through a phone application, we can address the mental health challenges faced by veterans and provide them with the care they deserve.

Thanks folks. When I raised this problem on Facebook, many of my women veteran friends stated they had the same issue with the VA, so we NEED help with name changes in the VA system. USAA allows me to manage our auto and home insurance. When we refinanced our home using a VA loan with New Day, I was able to handle the majority of the paperwork. Both of these organizations allow electronic management of activities, and allow me as the military spouse to manage these tasks as I do in the rest of our household. But the VA completely shuts me out. I cannot request prescription refills, coordinate community care, request medical appointments- all the things he hates to do. Worse, I can’t see any of these things to remind him or support him in scheduling. If the veteran wants a spouse to do these things, why can’t s/he authorize this with the appropriate approval granting electronic access. Dealing with the VA In general sometimes feel like we are asking for benefits that we did not earn, or benefits that we are not entitled to, or even looking for a handout. It is very rare for me to speak with a helpful & polite representative over the phone. Not the mention, the amount of time spent before you can even reach someone to assist. Therefore, digitizing everything or perhaps hiring more properly trained individuals would definitely help my experience in dealing with the VA. While some questions cannot be answered online & many people are not tech-savvy, over the phone support should still be immediately available & there needs to be a major reduction in the wait times that veterans are experiencing. Here I am six months later and still no copy of my electronic records. I would think the VA would be more transparent with their records. I can already download VA letters, which is a great advancement in digital access, but we should be able to access our records freely, unless the VA has something to hide, which is the reason for a FOIA in the first place - to have someone review the information first and to clean it up if necessary or redact information they don't want the veteran or their representatives to see... I think the VA is doing much better these days in the digital realm, but I think it would be important to make it less convoluted and more organized for veterans to easily access information, such as not having to go search around for when C&P payments will be distributed throughout each year, or what benefits a veteran has at 10, 20, 50, 90, or 100% - combined with links to state-level benefits... I would be grand if the VA and local states worked together to share a complete package of benefits without having to go search for them. Yes, the information is there... but many still can't find it... or learn late about lost benefits... To improve my Veteran EXPERIENCE? How about a 'body-camera' type device that you put on when you start your enlistment or commission, and take off (or turn off) only after you are discharged or retire from active service? Then swap that one out, or modify it for a VETERAN experience one that stays with you for THE REST OF YOUR LIFE. Integrate these 'body-cams' with some sort of bio-sensor to observe, monitor, and record all parameters of someone's life... their experiences, stress levels, emotions, and wants, needs, and desires. Then our 'data-happy' society would REALLY have some concrete trail and trace of a Servicemember's, then a Veteran's, account of life. One area of opportunity that comes to mind is a comprehensive, personalized VA Services Navigation Application. This platform could incorporate a user-friendly dashboard that brings together appointment scheduling, medication/pharmacy transactions, disability claims filing and management, along with real-time visibility into veterans benefits and eligibility status (for service members and their dependents).

This portal/application could be underpinned by artificial intelligence, machine learning, and natural language processing capabilities to offer predictive analytics, intelligent recommendations, and personalized guidance. For instance, automated reminders for prescription refills, anticipatory prompts for upcoming appointments with ability to proactively schedule, or cancel & reschedule with 1 transaction, and alerts for any changes in benefits status across the continuum of benefits.

Moreover, the integration of a chatbot for instant answers to common questions and a secure portal for communication with key personnel (not just healthcare providers via MyHealthEVet) could significantly improve the timeliness and quality of service delivery to vets. In addition, this system could also provide a secure space to upload, store, and access personal documents, which could significantly expedite the claims filing process. The goal would be to have a centralized, intuitive digital ecosystem, combining both push and pull delivery methods, that caters to the diverse needs of veterans, providing a seamless, end-to-end VA service experience.

Respectfully,
Richard F. I'm really upset because I have NO health care now that I left my high paying job to take care of myself and heal my brain and get care. Also, there should be a way either when applying for health care eligibility or when applying for a claim for the first time to upload and show current three paystubs as an alternative to W2 filing for the previous tax year. In my case the difference is more than half my salary is gone and I no longer have benefits thinking my TBI was serious enough at least for 50%. It is not helping. I mainly utilize the services provided by the myhealth.va.gov website. My usage is centered around communication via secure web email, re-ordering prescriptions and verifying appointments. My last two claims were placed online including an ailment under the PACT Act. I view the VA health programs to be like a HMO. You must take the lead with a HMO and be very active in your pursuit of your medial needs. If you leave it to a HMO you will likely not get the healthcare you need. It is not like the HMO or the VA do not care but they are largely overwhelmed by the work load. I know there are ERs and all that but not many people have the strength to get a ride or drive to the ER, theres too much going on in the minds and a lot of bad can happen. If a vet wakes up from night terrors they should have the ability to login to their myhealthvet and do a live session right then and there that way the following morning they can go pick up new meds or have them shipped with a tracking number. Combining it with pharmaceutical tracking and refill makes sense since the functions are nearly identical. When developing apps and websites, many times this is overlooked.

The reason why phones (for the most part) work so well is due to years of incremental changes, and sharpening of the sword. The same principle applies to digital tools. It is about the human experience.

As far as tools are considered. I would only recommend platforms that are web based. Many teams look to build phone apps, which in turn need maintenance and have security updates mandated by Google and Apple. This takes away from the main focus of the tool. Build responsive websites on platforms like Adobe AEM. You will never regret it. Survey and data gathering and forms that are compliant with California and other data compliancy laws, I recommend Alchemer. Great tool and almost anyone can use. I know when it comes to dealing with mental health technology isn't the best option, the best thing to combat mental health is to have well trained individuals to listen and work with veterans through their issues. I think most of us would prefer a counselor that is a combat veteran since the biggest majority of veterans needing help have PTSD along with many other physical issues. Also maybe and courses that we can take on line for free to help us out many of us can't work and find ourselves bored and depressed. If we had something to set a goal too like leadership courses, Microsoft office courses, etc. It would give us that sense of belonging again and some we can actually look forward too. These tools offer a range of capabilities that can enhance your college experience. Here's how each of these tools can be utilized:

1. iPad: The iPad is a versatile device that can serve multiple purposes in your college life. You can use it for note-taking, reading e-books, accessing online course materials, and organizing your schedule. With various productivity apps available, the iPad can help you stay organized and efficient.

2. Wi-Fi: Having access to Wi-Fi is essential for completing online assignments, conducting research, participating in virtual classes, and collaborating with classmates. Most college campuses provide Wi-Fi coverage, and if you're studying remotely or off-campus, you can rely on your home or public Wi-Fi networks.

3. Phone: Your phone can be a valuable tool for college as well. You can use it for communication with professors, classmates, and group project members. It also allows you to access email, set reminders, manage your calendar, and stay connected to important college-related updates or notifications.

4. Laptop: A laptop is a vital tool for college students as it provides the necessary computing power for a wide range of academic tasks. You can use it for writing papers, creating presentations, conducting research, and accessing online learning platforms. It also offers the flexibility to work on assignments from anywhere.

In addition to these digital tools, you mentioned using eBenefits and telehealth for care. These tools are specific to veterans and can greatly contribute to your well-being during college:

1. eBenefits: eBenefits is an online portal that allows veterans to access and manage their benefits, including education benefits like the GI Bill. It enables you to apply for benefits, track claims, and access educational resources conveniently.

2. Telehealth: Telehealth services provide veterans with the ability to receive medical care remotely. This is particularly useful for addressing health concerns while in college, as you can consult with healthcare providers via video calls. Telehealth eliminates the need for in-person visits and ensures you can access care conveniently.

By utilizing these digital tools, you can efficiently manage your academic responsibilities, stay connected with college, and access necessary benefits and healthcare services. Everyone is different and has different needs. A great idea would be more military oriented pharmacists located in remote areas, so we can use our military cards to receive medicine. We are too far from a military base. We have Tricare for Life Express Scripts. Takes too long for shipping to always get necessary items. Getting older and many conditions change. Prescriptions constantly change. I know there are places like Walgreens that a person can go to - but there are copays and that is not free. Military members deserve their free medicine. I had issues from VA that didn't give me a higher disability. Had to go to a lawyer that only charged a fee if they won. Discovered entitlements that spouse wasn't receiving for years! They got a big chunk of money from that. Shouldn't that money to lawyer be refunded to me? Went from 20% to 90% disability because VA did not approve. Should have 100%. I have problems functioning normally from constant pain. My wife is typing this for me. I don't go to the VA anymore. The VA is too far away. For years, my wife paid for our insurance until I could apply for Medicare. Enough said. Thank you for listening. I hate calling the VA and waiting on hold, so any digital tool is a plus for me. I also use the online process for filling out forms and applying for benefits. I find the process easy and user friendly.
Now if there were a portal directly to chat with a patient representative, that would be amazing. It would streamline the process, there would be a record of the conversation, and there could even be a team who works remotely so the advocates at the hospital aren't overwhelmed with patients and phone calls. This could be implemented all across the US. Companies across the globe have been implementing chat portals for customer service and it has improved service times and customer satisfaction. The VA would benefit from using the same tools, not just in patient advocacy. Also, as patients get younger, digital tools such as these will be in higher demand as the younger generations are much more likely to use them. I typically go to an outside provider and specialist our see me immediately. outside Urgent Care and Emergency Room visit I hope the VA will come up with a plan to cover these services and communicate to the veterans how to use these outside services. Finally, Care in the Community is broken at some facilities with thousands of veterans either delayed or become lost in the process. I know staffing is working hard but the process is not working for a large majority of veterans. VA doctors are sending more and more veterans to the community and care is being greatly delayed. Overall my personal experience has been mixed. Some good some bad. I find when a department have have well defined processes and communicate them clearly to staff and veterans the veterans experience is much better. On the other hand when processes are not defined and communicated well veterans feel they get the run around and end up in the Patient Advocate office trying to get some assistance on what they medically need. When this happens it boggs down multiple VA staff to respond to the veterans concerns. These concerns number in the thousands each year, image the man hours that can be saved and used for other veterans care.
