Guy this message is time sensitive! PLEASE tag who ever you know that can help to get some young men some help as fast as we can! I sit down to talk to these gentlemen Wednesday night...It is now Monday afternoon!
I have THREE young men that are looking to join the military. Problem? They are all ex-Amish and do NOT have past an 8th grade education. They are all hard hard HARD working men and have the right mind set to make it extremely far in the military and the potential to be something special! I need help from a recruiter! Please pass this information on down the line and up the line as high and low as we need to! Have whoever you need to call me....call me at [login to see] Please ladies and gents! ALSO if you know a recruiter in southeast Ohio....That would be a great help!!! Thanks all

I was told by a recruiter a few months ago that we would have to show the recruiters our HS records and curriculum to ensure they met the state requirements. In TX the requirements are simply Reading/writing, math, English and good citizenship. Luckily for us, we are members of a co-op that will provide a diploma.
Another option is to have them take a placement exam from a credentialed source, such as Texas Tech ISD (yes, Texas Tech University has an ISD).

Based on their background it would appear they need some kind of accelerated 'Adult Learning Model' classes to get them prepared for a HS equivalency.
I know for HS kids (we homeschool our 5 kids, 7th grade/13 y/o and down) that they must complete some form of HS equivalence in order to enlist in the military, or to go to college. We are planning to make sure our have that in a timely manner, but that doesn't help you now.
I recommend going online to goarmy.com and finding a local recruiter who can help you with the details. You could also use RallyPoint's unit locator to find a recruiter to connect with that could help.
Good luck and thanks for telling the Army Story!
