What do I need to know about the PSYOP PDD and what can I do to train my soldiers to broaden our understanding of the PDD and our role? 2016-03-16T13:59:09-04:00 CPL Private RallyPoint Member 1384107

I'm looking for ways to better train a Det of completely inexperienced soldiers in their specific roles within the PDD and for an outline of what each part of the PDD should be doing. I realize that historically, the PDD has in many cases served as the dumping ground for the ash and trash or inexperienced troops, but that's the opposite way it should be done. All tactical psyopers should begin on a team to learn the craft and then after a few years, move up to a TAAT. I would actually recommend setting up an internal selection process for those on an OML to earn the assignment. The PDD is the nexus where all tactical efforts are processed and gauged for success/failure before being sent higher for consumption. Trending and effectiveness, followed by TAAT intervention at all levels. People think the TPT is where the sexy is, but that's wrong.

That said, the work of Cialdini should be copiously consumed by all PSYOPers. It's basically a one stop shop for operationalizing the various theories of influence science. Iček Aijzhen's Theory of Planned Behavior is a great forray into the deeper science for the advanced learner, as is the work on Social Dominance by Sidanius and Pratto.

Take what they learn with this stuff and go out into urban areas and use it to gather passive information for later processing into Human Factors usage. It will break down any individual social barriers and serve to acclimate them to F2F.

Study marketing. Study psychology and sociology. Study imagery. Study cultures. Learn languages.

Hope that helps! There's a lot of equipment that is specifically used by PDD that TPTs don't use.

Also, they need to be very familiar with the PsyOp Seven step process as most of this is done in PDD. SCAME analysis is often done in PDD as we have access to more databases than the average TPT in the field. Google propoganda flyers and print some off and have them do SCAME analysis. You should SCAME it first so they don't BS you.
AS far as the equipment training is concerned, your training NCO will need to set that up for AT.

We are training on the seven steps one step at a time. Your 37F need to learn how to utilize their intel personnel assets and graphic illustrators. Don't let those guys get bored. Maybe have your graphic illustrators make fake propo for the 37Fs to SCAME. Have your intel guys prepare monthly briefs from open source and practice briefing. Every one should practice briefing. CUBS and PUBS are your pathway to getting your TPTs outside the wire and for your intel guys to work with other intel assets. If your guys can't do a capes brief, it will be a useless deployment.
