What do people feel about military personnel putting up pictures of themselves wearing their military uniforms on dating sites?

I hate seeing people in battle uniforms at social events or bars...
I hate seeing politicians with pictures of themselves in uniform on campaign propaganda...
But the dating sites doesn't bother me much.
Being a soldier consumes you...a good pic of you in uniform on a dating site might be the bast way to capture who you are.

Don't have to use one as I'm married, but women do go for guys uniform.

IMHO, keep it respectful. Don't post any pic of yourself in uniform that could cause you to answer to the CDR. I would advise to not use it as your main profile pic as you should be looking for a partner who loves you for you, not because your in the military. I met my wife online and did not have a uniform pic. But I did make it clear I was in the Army.

Posting on dating sites should be appropriate for an interpersonal setting. You choose how you want people to see you.

My son asked me that same question years ago. My answer was that if that person does not know you, dress casual and be yourself.

I personally recommend not posting a military picture. It is all about perception. Civilians who have no contact with a military service member may be challenged and not be able to see past the uniform.

Unless you are setting your limits and boundaries to others who like or show interest in service members, perhaps wearing your uniform says it all. However, these online dating sites publish globally, so that your endeavors will go global as well.

Why not? I have no issue with it as long as it is in good taste and IAW with military regulation. After all, the service is a huge part of your life and it gives the perspective person an opportunity to see something you are proud about before even meeting.

I wouldn't know the best way to answer but my opinion is its a great thing if its for the right reasons. But I do warn you all or anyone that wants to, there are plenty of scam artists that will take your pic and scam other women. Therefore it lessens your likelyness of meeting someone. I have zero problem with it. The issue is with those people who wear their uniforms inappropriately. An example would be some lonely 20 year-old Joe with his Pc cocked sideways and a stud in his ear. No. No...and wrong.

A picture says 1000 words. I see no difference in posting a picture in uniform than in civies. Since I am married, the dating site thing does not apply, but I have posted pix in my uniform (past pix) on Facebook. It just lets people know a little about you.

Is there any difference in posting a picture in a suit? I think not, you are just putting your best appearance out there.

Before I met my husband I was "signed up" to a few of these sites. Being in myself I swayed away from the guys who had it posted as their profile picture. I thought 2 things, either their "trying to hard to get a date" or they are very job oriented and not so much relationship oriented, I get that we have a job to do, but I wanted to see someone a bit more relaxed. I preferred guys that had a casual picture of them. I wanted to see them for them not their job/rank. I guess seeing guys in uniform all day made me want to see something outside the box I was stuck in during the day. Their statement about themselves can say they are in the service, there was no need to have it be their main picture. Most sites let you have a few pictures, add one in the album. I guess I saw it as if you were rich taking pictures with a flashy car or a bunch of 100.00 bills (in that case I would have found that arrogant) LOL That was my perspective as a female who was looking to date, on active duty. I have my profile picture here in uniform but it is like that because this social site is military related,

BLUF - Neutral. To each their own unless the regs say otherwise.

Personally, not sure its a great idea. Yes the uniform can attract people, but it could actually work in reverse. Someone sees the uniform and thinks, "I don't want to be involved with a military member due to the risks", even if the SM is reserve or NG. IMHO, if used under this pretense, the uniform is being used for personal gain.

Ahh come on people....back in the day sailors used to wear their dress blues to dating sites all the time. Heck, I even had a set of blues tailor made with my "cuffs" special made! Going on a dating site and using your uniform is nothing new. Military folks been doing it forever - just not electronically. Seriously...why do you think all those cotillions were set up for? What about all the balls, etc?

I disagree with it. Not only do you have to worry about local tag chasers, but you open yourself up to all of the other tag chasers in the world. Plus countless other potential dangers.

You could probably say the same about this site, but I feel a sense of security, however false it may or may not be, here.

There is actually military dating sites. I'm not kidding. I knew a NCO who found his wife on one. I was shocked but if they have Christian singles, anything is possible.
