What do you miss most after leaving home?

For me, I grew up in one town until I was 17 and left for the military. I didn't realize some things were specific to Pennsylvania and the Northeast until I couldn't get the things I craved!

My top things I still miss:

Wegmans Grocery Stores
MTO at Sheetz
Butterscotch Krimpet Tastykakes

Awesome, another Pennsylvanian. I used to deliver pizza for Fox's Pizza, and after I got off at night I would go to Sheetz for an MTO. The small town I am from is only about 2400 people total. Every time I make a trip back though its the smells, especially in summer time, that I miss. Never the same anywhere else.

I'm a transplant from Florida.

I miss Publix.
A 5 minute drive takes you straight to the beach. And the sand doesn't feel like cat litter.
Paying a penny per inch for your young kids at Anna Maria Oyster Bar.
I hated it growing up, but the smell of Tropicana burning the orange peels.
Celebrating Snooty's birthday every July. Yes, my town hosts a celebration for a manatee. And we're proud of it.

I'm in the DC area, close to Fort Belvoir VA, and we have three Wegmans within a 20 mile radius.

Having said that, I'm originally from Rhode Island. I miss my Del's Frozen Lemonade in the summer!

Togo's, Vangos, Riverside Pizza, Presque Isle, 5 min drive to go anywhere in town, bike paths, hiking/walking, university students (can't believe I'm saying that), fall colors, snow, lots of HS friends, and the "small town" feeling.

--going to see live Irish music with my family
--the buzz of NYC anytime of the day or night
--real pizza
--Diner food
--White Castle (I know, weird, but yum)
--Sabrett street cart hot dogs in NYC ("dirt water dawgs") with sautéed red onions

At 18 I couldn't get out of town fast enough. I wanted to get knee deep in the world and needed to head out but If I had to say I ever missed anything it would have to be Kansas City BBQ.

I hate to say it because in some ways it was what made me want to leave but I miss the small town life. All of my friends and family within fairly close proximity, everyone knows each other and despite the differences I know that if needed our community would band together and help one another. Just haven't found any of that anywhere else really since I have been in.
