What do you think about DA Police on your installation?

Some have had issues with the way they present themselves, while other praise it. How do you feel about DA Police?

Honestly I don't mind them on the Gate controlling entry to the installation but as far as riding around on patrol I don't like.

Some of the DA guards have to much of a power trip. They use there prior service against soldiers to earn a little more respect. The way they approach people can be taking as rude and disrespectful. Making a scene in a public area should be avoided and they seem to like the attention. But this does not apply to all DA guards.

I am an MP, so I work hand in hand in hand with DA Civilian Police. Without them, my detachment wouldn't be able to make mission. We wouldn't be able to meet the additional taskings and events that call for Military Police. I don't mind working along side the DA Civilian Police. However, the DASG (DA Security Guards) on the gates are a whole different story. As a whole, they present themselves poorly. They give the actual patrols a bad name as well. What they don't get is most don't know the difference between a DACP and a DASG. So to your average Joe coming through the gate they see "Police." I dont know how many complaints we get daily about the security guards at the gate.

I think the question was about the DACP not the DASG guys. I am a DACP, I thoroughly enjoy my job. I also enjoy working with MP's. I think the differences have the potentially for cohesiveness and esprit de corps.

My opinion is biased, as I am a DAFC Police officer. I certainly get some of the reservations of SM's. It does take considerable effort to make the relationships profitable.

I don't like it as a practice. I understand the numbers argument, and I've never had a problem with them, but the Army should police their own.

As a Military Policeman, I have mixed emotions when thinking about this question. The DACP often do help with dealing with senior personnel when they are potential suspects or even at a traffic stop. For some people it is not easy for them to accept that a junior person is telling them that they are wrong. This is where the DACP come into play because they do not fall into the military rank structure at all except for their direct supervisors. Also, some of them are actual civilian police officers that need a second job or have had civilian law enforcement training. Since they do not move around every couple of years like the active duty Soldiers, they usually have more intimate knowledge about the installation and what the crime stats are about the post. It really depends on the people that are working as DACP and whether or not they are actively trying to do adequate police work instead of trying to can a case because they do not want to work it.
