I never realized there was a limit to up votes until one day I found myself just carried away and going through a few threads. Suddenly I reached the limit and was 1) appalled I had responded that much and 2) upset that I could not reward the good thinking and comments I was still seeing. <br /><br />This was on a rare day where I was able to devote a high number of hours to RP. By the time the next day rolled around I had lost the enthusiasm and time to go back and continue. (BTW, you can only Endorse 5 people a day. I found that out on the same day.) If you're active and you read quite a few responses that you may not agree with but appear to be well worded you may run out of them. It seems like a thumbs up would be the least of the problems. First unlike other activities on the site it would be hard to abuse the thumbs up since it doesn't really seem like a valid method of spamming the site, second you can only thumbs up a post or response once so even if it's a measure of interest and activity to a post or response it wouldn't be hard to scam the system. I'd rather see restrictions placed on its counterpart the thumbs down that would pop a box up that would require an explanation of why the post was voted down since most people here seem very reluctant as it is to thumb down a post or response. Even though I think that I have only bumped into the limitation once, but in that discussion, everyone that made a concrete somewhat well thought out statement should have received more, but did not because of the limit. Most of the time for some of us, 50 is just about right.<br /><br />One thought on this though would be to have differing levels that can be earned and taken away. Earn additional Thumbs Up for more active participation, along the lines of the more badges, etc. that you earn, the more thumbs up that you get<br />Have some taken away, when a Thumbs Down is given by someone and they have not contributed to the discussion. The contribution to the discussion does not have to be in direct line with the Thumbs Down, but they do have to have participated in the discussion by making a comment in the discussion.<br /><br />That's my 2 cents worth.
