What do you think about the 50 Thumbs Up per day limit

I get into RP discussions all day long and I want to be generous with my thumbs up but we are limited to 50 per 24 hour period. If I start a discussion topic I feel those who join in deserve a thumbs up. I find myself, on occasion running out, maybe I'm too generous and not discerning enough. How do you feel about it?

From an RP Admin stand point, there has to be a limit somewhere I guess, so I'm not disagreeing with a limit just wondering if it needs a bit of an increase

I would say that 50 per day that count for points and the rest would be because you are enthusiastic about voting others up!

I do not think 50 a day is enough. Some days it is easy to reach that limit in a short period of time. There are so many great conversations and so many things being said that deserve an thumbs up.

Providing a limit regardless of the number forces the user to think about what they are upvoting. If I know I only have so many votes, which of the thousands of daily posts are worthy of the vote?

I'm ambivalent on this one. I did vote it's not enough since I usually run out of votes very quickly in the day. At the same time thought, there does need to be a limit since it could end up being a free-for-all.

Of course, I have my ever trusty M2 50 caliber "Thumbs Up" gun manned by good ol Rambo himself. :D

I believe that a 50 up votes per day limit is just right considering you are just giving up votes without a comment explaining your up vote, most of the time.

However, if RP starts to require an explanation with every up vote, then I feel this should be unlimited.

There might be more things that others might see that they would like to discuss and if they are limited, then they won't want to give their feedback on much of anything in any discussion, therefore they will be discouraged from participating with things that are worthwhile.

50 sounds like a heck of a lot of votes until you get involved in a very heavy discussion. I never realized there was a limit to up votes until one day I found myself just carried away and going through a few threads. Suddenly I reached the limit and was 1) appalled I had responded that much and 2) upset that I could not reward the good thinking and comments I was still seeing.

This was on a rare day where I was able to devote a high number of hours to RP. By the time the next day rolled around I had lost the enthusiasm and time to go back and continue. (BTW, you can only Endorse 5 people a day. I found that out on the same day.)

Do we look to just get votes up or do we really want to have something that is really something that is worth looking at. People see that sometimes we do just need someone to talk to and get a laugh out. And other times we really need someone to hear us.

I don't believe that there should be a limit. If people only use the thumbs up to gain points, then make the thumbs up worth nothing. I spend a lot of time on Rally Point and there are always lots of great discussions and comments to vote up.

How much does a Thumbs up acknowledgment cost anyone? If you're active and you read quite a few responses that you may not agree with but appear to be well worded you may run out of them. It seems like a thumbs up would be the least of the problems. First unlike other activities on the site it would be hard to abuse the thumbs up since it doesn't really seem like a valid method of spamming the site, second you can only thumbs up a post or response once so even if it's a measure of interest and activity to a post or response it wouldn't be hard to scam the system. I'd rather see restrictions placed on its counterpart the thumbs down that would pop a box up that would require an explanation of why the post was voted down since most people here seem very reluctant as it is to thumb down a post or response.

Perhaps the way they give points for thumb-ups could be adjusted... but if someone gives a good response they should be recognized for it (seems like this is in another thread about awards). It is especially annoying when someone comments on your post and you wish to reply back but can't give the added thumbs-up...

There should not be a limit for those that deserve credit for their input. It is also a method of acknowledging those that reply to a specific discussion.

I think a better solution may be to no only "up" the limit, but also reduce what the "thumbs up" means to others points-wise. I must admit I feel like gloating whenever I receive one, but 50 points is a lot. 25 points may be more appropriate?

See, I agree with you. I give thumbs up to things I like and for participation that is respectful. Some think there are those who are on here 24/7 and it piques their anger or something.

I never downvote and I never will, not because I feel some do not deserve it but that is an opinion and I don't feel LIKE ABUSING other veterans with downvotes because YOU ALL ARE VETERANS.

I wouldn't mind having more, but I'm guessing that the reason for the limit is so we don't vote ourselves a bunch of points. Perhaps if there were no points awarded to the voter, only to the receiver of the vote, that would solve that?

Sometimes 50 per day is just not enough. Even though I think that I have only bumped into the limitation once, but in that discussion, everyone that made a concrete somewhat well thought out statement should have received more, but did not because of the limit. Most of the time for some of us, 50 is just about right.

One thought on this though would be to have differing levels that can be earned and taken away. Earn additional Thumbs Up for more active participation, along the lines of the more badges, etc. that you earn, the more thumbs up that you get
Have some taken away, when a Thumbs Down is given by someone and they have not contributed to the discussion. The contribution to the discussion does not have to be in direct line with the Thumbs Down, but they do have to have participated in the discussion by making a comment in the discussion.

That's my 2 cents worth.

I don't see any issue with unlimited thumbs up but maybe a limited amount of points. Once you hit 50 points then you don't get anymore points until the next day.

How about this: anybody gets over 50 they are banked to next day. So if they get 35 or so what ever was over the day before getting added to the short day. And that day goes up ..

I'm very active and I don't think there should be a limit. At 3 points each like it would take a disproportionately large amount of time to rack up enough points for a meaningful difference to occur.

I voted in the middle because I don't have a clue what is too much or two little. I'm happy to give them as an actual (1) good question, (2) lower enlisted reaching out for advice and (3) something I can learn from. But I don't give out a bunch and nor do I receive a lot. I do hope that any received are genuinely sent instead of maybe "hey I get points and it's a status thing to have points as an influencer."

I realize that I just voted for “50 is just right”
However, if you honestly think about it, “each individual has such a huge variance in their rainbow”.
Some members are on the website much longer than others, and for various reasons/motives.
Possibly, my question to the membership might be....”Should there BE a maximum quota?
I feel it should be brought to the powers-to-be, in order to create fairness, once the membership has their “say”.
