What do you think about the growing trend of people wanting to make historically heterosexual characters homosexual?

I've seen a few times recently where people want characters made homosexual including Elsa from Frozen and most recently Captain America. What are your thoughts? I don't have a problem with homosexuality, but I think if people want a movie with a homosexual hero or character than they should make one about a character that was written as a homosexual. What say you?

I don't understand this trend. If you want a character to be a certain way, make a character that way. But why change just for the sake political correctness... actually I don't understand this push to make every thing pc.

I've about had it with the PC Bull.... I was raised with a different set of morals. I doubt I would last in todays military.

I think you have the right idea SSG(P) Private RallyPoint Member. If the LGBT community wants a homo-, trans-, or bi-sexual character, then they should CREATE a new one with the characteristics they are looking for.

Let the author make that call. Less than 2% of society identifies as gay. They have no right to force others to accept their dysfunctions as healthy and normal. Society determines norms and not loud minorities.

To be anthropological about the issue.... There is no black and white for people being homosexual or heterosexual. It is in fact a graduated scale. More men are either more towards the homosexual or heterosexual ends of the spectrum, so they have more biased views on the subject. Women on the other hand are more evenly distributed towards the center of the spectrum, where they can find attraction in both sexes to varying degrees and are less one-sided.

Based on this, people that decide to put long-standing characters as homosexual that were previously heterosexual is not a new thing. I would say that it has something more to do with a fetish or "kawaii" (cute) culture, or that they just want to be able to relate more to their favorite characters. Do I condone it, No. Do I say that it is something terrible and must be stopped immediately, No. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and artistic license, so leave them to their own devices if you find offense in it. Acceptance of all people, for whomever they are or want to be, is the end point of society. It will happen sometime in your lifetimes, or maybe after you are dead, but hate and condemnation will not stop the inevitable.

This is funny because I was ranting about this with my friends a couple days ago. I started watching Black Sails and was really enjoying the series until I got to the episode where they reveal that Captain Flint is gay. That's the last episode of that series I'll ever watch. Same thing happened with Penny Dreadful. It also pissed me off when Marvel changed Nick Fury to be a black man in the Iron Man and Avenger movies.
