It looks to be very similar to the system the civilian employees are on. Overall, I think it will be a good thing if each person leverages it correctly.

The old system 50 after 20 and 75 after 30 was great. I think a 401k system is a lot Riskier but apparently the Government doesn't want the onus anymore and wants to put it out to the Private World.

I think Congress and the military should have the exact same retirement benifits. If they are so willing to change our retirement and pay, theirs should change just like ours.

It has some good benefits and some drawbacks. To be blunt it is going to be a very personal choice for those with the decision to make about switching from the old to the new. I strongly encourage Soldiers to become knowledgeable about the new system and consider their long term goals before making a decision.
