What do you think about the new prototype of a potentially new "Pink and Green" Army Dress Uniform?

I would buy this. As for the picture though, why does the SFC's service cap have the "50 Mission Crush" already applied? That shape was a mark of success and luck. It meant that crew could go home if they chose. But I guess with the way things are these days, everyone has a "Ranger Roll" in their caps (despite being discouraged) so I guess a "50 Mission Crush" should be acceptable too.... C'est l'Armee.

I am pretty sure this was considered when the last change happened or at least something similar. It doesn't have any impact on me now but it seems that the Army has been changing just to change for some time.

This is pretty much the uniform I described in another post on the subject of the Army service uniform. As in that post I would still recommend a fixed wear out date for the current service uniform, as in the current uniform is worn until dd/mm/yyyy, after which date only the new uniform is worn. No overlap in wear dates. And that every Soldier, enlisted and commissioned would be issued a voucher in an amount sufficient to purchase two sets of the new uniform including trousers, blouse, shirts, belts, scarves and an Ike jacket(that ought to upset the bean counters enough to scuttle the idea altogether, but it would reduce the burden on the troops). And that the uniform service life would be at least that of the longest lived previous uniform style(a fifty year period that would reduce the burden of uniform change on the troops and appease the accountants).

This is a good first start as a prototype. The uniform needs to have the old "chocolate" OD green shirt in addition to the khaki one, and have both the chocolate and khaki ties. They need to standardize on the overseas cap instead of the service cap, except for formal events. And bring the Sam Browne belt back for officers.

Like it. Looks great.....but didn't the Army just get rid of Service Greens? (Yes, I know they did). Looks really good, but they shouldn't have spent the money on the ASUs and gone straight to this instead. But what do I know, I wear 14 uniforms for the Navy, 6 for the Marines, and 11 for the Coast Guard.... :(

As much as I keep shaking my head at the seemingly endless stream of uniform changes lately, I think that something like this is what the Class "A/Dress uniform should have been for a long, long time... and should stay that way.

THE COST OF DRESS BLUES IS PRETTY EXTREME FOR MANY OF THE ENLISTED SOLDIERS. GOING TO THE WWII STYLE OF DRESS UNIFORM WITH BLACK SHOES/BOOTS WOULD BE A DEFINITE OK FROM MY VIEWPOINT. DEFINITELY NOT THE STARCHED KHAKIS FROM THE 60’s/70’s ERA. THE SAUCER AND GARRISON CAP DEFINITELY NOT PART OF THESE POSSIBLE CHANGES TO THE DRESS UNIFORM.

Looks a hell of a Lot better than the asu which is a crap approximation of the cavalry days. I liken the asu to buying jeans with rips in them. The faded pants are a factory approximation of the fading during the 1800s when the jacket was put aside. The class a was a great uniform and this looks ok. I think it is cheaper and better to just go back.

I think those who supply the uniforms are all for it. Just look at the money they will make because the Army can not make up it's mind. Look how many times the Marines have changed their dress uniform in the past compared to the Army. I am just glad I don't have to put up with this goat screw game anymore.
The question - follow the money and you will see what happens.

There have been way to many uniform changes in my opinion. Can you say "Fraud Waste and Abuse"? Here is a though for the DA or maybe even the DOD, lets take 10 minutes think about what we might want to do, look at all angles of it and then make a decision. Oh and wait for it; when the next person in-charge comes in lets not let him change it because he/she didn't like "Bob" or whoever the predecessor was. If it aint broke don't fix it!

It looks spectacular. Until the interdiction of the Army Service Uniform (ASU), for the last 60 plus years, we had both a Duty Service Uniform and a Formal Dress Blue Uniform. Hopefully the reintroduction of the Iconic Pinks and Greens as our Duty Service Uniform will not eliminate the ASU, instead it should just convert back to it's proper place as our Formal Dress Blue Uniform.

I never did like the Army Greens. The Blues should be kept for formal occasions and the World War II uniforms are ideal in my opinion for our Army personnel. That is my 2 cents.

I have yet to see the new prototype dress uniform, but I don't think that I would be in favor or it. I have developed a fondness for our current ASU's. I think we should stick with what we have.

I always though these uniforms that We wore as Cadets At Bordentown Military Institute, in Bordentown,,NJ looked sharp, very much in tune with the Army uniform look but notice the gray pants with the black stripe. The program there was Army and active duty Army NCOs and Officers were stationed there to train us. This was our Class A uniform although We also had a gray Class B Uniform.

Look Soldiers, here’s the deal.

The current Army Service Uniform was created for two reasons:

1. To honor the past. The Uniform recreates the U.S. Army Civil War cavalry uniform. The pants were worn all the time. The coat was often rolled up and put behind the saddle, so it saw less fading than the pants. Thus the lighter pants. This is a fantastic homage to our fighting past.
2. The company that won the contract to make the new ASU was both the lowest bidder AND gave the best kickbacks to the people who decided which uniform to choose.

You can guess, I’m sure, which of these was the more important factor.

This is par for the course as far as the way the Army does business these days. The digital camouflage is a perfect example of this. It has been widely reported that numerous kickbacks were given out for that pattern to be chosen, even though it was dead last in the numerous trials it and half a dozen other uniform patterns were put through.

So, would the “pinks and greens” be a better choice as far as the “Class A” uniform is concerned? Yes.

Will the “pinks and greens” be chosen as the primary “Class A” uniform for the Army? Not until the company that wants to make them offers a payout to the people in charge big enough to beat out all of the other contenders.

Until then all you can hope for is that a company throws around enough money that Acquisitions Command decides to add an “alternative” uniform so that both the company making said uniform AND the people making policy can cash in on that decision.

Notice, not a single thought was wasted on the cost to the Servicemember. Because those in the decision-making positions don’t give a flying green shot about the Servicemember, as long as they are getting theirs.

All the uniform changes we have gone through in the past 10 years has me counting the days until i retire. I got it, traditions, values, etc. We will shortly be setting ourselves up to change ourselves into poverty just to keep up with the uniform changes. If we change the uniform... again, we will inevitably change when someone comes up with another opinion. Leave it alone. OR make it an additional uniform that is OPTIONAL... which means it will then become mandatory.

This is ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE IDEA! There is no demand nor need to change a great uniform for this crap! This is like when GEN Shinseki took the black beret from Rangers and gave it to the whole Army. That was the biggest slap to the Rangers and all to make the Army more attractive for marketing and also because he wanted to do "something" to leave a mark. Reminds me of every SMA looking for something to change just to say that they got to SMA. What a waste of resources.
I love my ASU and I will wear it until it becomes illegal and nobody will pressure me to not use it until the very end.

I do not see why it is so important to change the uniforms, every time you turn around. There are a few people that have a closet full of outdated uniforms. Someone at big Army must be getting kick back from the garment industry. The Army pushes people to use the decision making process or maybe they didn't get a copy? The Army changes uniforms more than any other service. There seems to be no good reason for this! There is no organized wear-out dating system. They pick a date and after that the uniform can not be worn.

Pinks and Greens great idea to help bring back the Army's image..... But the Dress Blues need to be fixed and returned back to their former glory of what they were before they got meshed with the class A uniform and the Dress Whites must be brought back.
Yes its a lot of uniforms but the Army has all the class lets keep our uniforms and tradition and almost a uniform for every occasion ........Dress blues and whites, dress mess blues and whites,
Class A, and now soon the pinks and greens the Army all of the class to show it off too.

It’s kinda cool from a retro perspective. Has a British look to it also. The current Army and Air Force dress uniforms look so pedestrian to me. These have some class, IMHO. Of course, I wore the old Air Force 1505 khaki uniform, and really disliked the current polyester pants....I hate polyester!

I like the idea but if we are going back to a historical uniform go back to it. Use the same colors I always thought we never should have changed The Navy and Marines haven’t changed their service uniforms in 100 years
