SGT Kyle Taylor 330985

So I am at 9yr and 2 months TIS. I have been on P stat for about 5 months. I am a 19D and want to do a reclass. Everything is for E5 non P. If I gave up the P and re-classed and can get a school date by July next year, do you think I have plenty of time to get promoted or will I hit RCP? Currently have 524 points and dont have ALC yet. I want to go from 19D to 29E or 35L. What do you think of a 9yr in servive E5 (P) giving up P stat to Reclass? 2014-11-17T13:39:39-05:00 SGT Kyle Taylor 330985

So I am at 9yr and 2 months TIS. That would seem to make more sense. When I was at that point in my career, many people re-classed at the E-6 level, but that was a long time ago, so I'm sure things have changed.

If it's a possibility - to get promoted, and then to re-classify - I'd recommend that path to your desired MOS. I only have about 4 to 5 MOS I can change to right now as a E5. If I get my 6 it the list get shorter. I could wait till I get in the window to reenlist rather than re-class but than I will be over 10years in service and that is another issue to fight. I have been trying for 29E for a couple years and was picked up and approved by HRC and given a school date in Oct. That was on the 27th but my career counselor told me I would do my extension to make the SAR when I got to the school. Well HRC sends me a email on the 10th of Nov that I didn't meet the requirements any longer and canceled my ATRR reservation. The MILPER changed on NOV 1 and cause they didn't do all the paperwork in Oct I lost my spot. Almost 7 yrs and held out for a reclass. My new mos doesn't accept SSG. It's in regulation:

AR 601-280, Army Retention Program, Appendix E, Line 5:
e. If a change in the Soldier’s rank or PMOS occurs before movement to the course, confirmation of attendance must be made. If the Soldier is no longer eligible for course attendance or assignment because of change in rank or PMOS, the Soldier will be assigned according to the needs of the Army.
