Save it for somebody who truly needs it, such as expecting mothers, the handicapped, etc. Response by SFC Private RallyPoint Member made Mar 6 at 2018 12:30 PM 2018-03-06T12:30:47-05:00 2018-03-06T12:30:47-05:00 Maj Kevin "Mac" McLaughlin 8517989

It's funny this popped up on my feed after it's been around sone 2015. Yes! I do use these spaces and yes, I do take advantage of military discounts. I really don't understand why some people shun the discounts and respects offered to Veterans when some are offered to all kinds of others (First responders, teachers, contractors at Home Depot/Lowes, etc). I personally like to save money and if a business wants to help me do that, simply because I'm a Veteran, I'm going to accept that discount. It's not about need, but rather being thrifty. If I don't accept that 10%, that business is simply going to make that much more profit off of me.

As for parking spaces, as long as the business has their allotted handicapped spaces, I have no problem using the ones designated for Veterans. Parking in a space where little to no people take notice of you hardly makes you the opposite of humble. I can be humble when people thank me for my service, and I thank them back simply for supporting Veterans.

Out of curiosity for those who don't take advantage of the discounts, parking, etc... Do you also not wear or display anything associating you with the military? Why not? Are you not proud of your own service? Do you no longer care for or about the military? The way I see it, showing people the number of Veterans amongst them is a good thing. So long as you aren't acting inappropriately or disrespectful... As a "Thank You" to all veterans who served in any branch of service. It might be just one parking slot, but I've used it shopping at business, more than once.

Here on Guam also, any veteran driver's license is free for 5 years, but when you do come in for renewal, you are required by law, to take the eye testing, a qualification that you do see all the arrows, not the Indians.
