<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>I agree with you on spending money but the new pt's. Will have some improvements not just color change. Better pockets for keys and ID. The long sleeve won't be a turtle neck. The shirt material is supposed to be more under armor like. Should be some improvements but I would rather have paper to print on and would kill for some money to buy paper towels at the office.1SG Private RallyPoint MemberThu, 05 Dec 2013 04:36:26 -05002013-12-05T04:36:26-05:00Response by SSG Private RallyPoint Member made Dec 5 at 2013 6:43 AM

<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>I think new materials are the way to go when I joined 4 years ago the NG gave me a set of PTs for going to RSP drills while waiting for basic. These PT's were of modern breathable, wicking materials that I would be happy to wear anywhere. So if the new Army style ends up more like that I am willing to accept my initial issue and will pay out of pocket to buy extra shorts and tops. <div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Anyone who has been in a while will recall the odd PT's. They were horrible. The PT's we wear now are not bad but could use improvements. The shirt should be a lighter weight and the winters are horrible also. I civilian gear is much more breathable in the cold weather. It really won't be much of a waste of money. They will just phase them in as they did the ASU and ACU. I hope they call it the APU. <div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>There are a few differences that are going to make these new Pt's better. <div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>It will be 2015 before the Army starts giving them to basic soldiers and then another year or two until they are mandatory for all. This is pretty much the same as when we switched from the old greys to the current uniforms. Since I have hated the current heavy, expensive uniforms I am looking towards the new release especially if it gets rid of that F$%^ing PT belt. Now I am sure some high speeds will think it should be kept, probably the same ones who made Soldiers with the new fully reflective uniforms wear a PT belt, but that thing needs to disappear. Improving the uniform and learning from mistakes is never a problem. One of your complaints, the turtle neck, is removed from the uniform setup. Take a second to look at the good side of a new uniform instead of wanting to stay with a broken uniform.MAJ Private RallyPoint MemberWed, 11 Dec 2013 11:59:24 -05002013-12-11T11:59:24-05:00Response by 2LT Private RallyPoint Member made Dec 11 at 2013 12:06 PM

I understand women are the minority and such but part of being a Soldier is at least looking the part. The smallest sizes still look like I am wearing a baggy ill-fitting PT uniform. <div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>As mentioned, the army would spend money on the production of the ipfu regardless of what version or design it is, but the real problem comes from the R&D. The money spends Ridiculous amounts of money on revamping things that do not need revamping. Or worse yet, things that need revamping, but never see update. The pt uniform falls into the former. It doesn't need to have funds invested into it's revision if it works. Put this money into soldiers pockets. Put it into installation renovation. Put it into into rebuilding the decrepit schools on post. There are ways to invest this money wisely, and the pt uniform is not it... <div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>SGT Johnson,<br /><br />I can remember there was a survey sent out to all Leaders giving them the opportunity to voice their desired changes to the uniform. I'm proud to say that I took part in that. No, I do not agree on the financial issues that come with the production of the uniform. In theory I feel the Army should manufacture the uniforms and prepare them for sales once our Nation' s debt ratio subsides. I wish I had a dollar for every time I've had to ask a Soldier, "Where's your reflective belt"? The reflection strip on the IPFU Jacket we wear now always wears off to include the pt shorts. When the time is right I think we should transition into the new pt uniform.SSG Robert PierceSun, 27 Jul 2014 13:28:22 -04002014-07-27T13:28:22-04:00Response by SPC Private RallyPoint Member made Jul 31 at 2014 11:49 AM

<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>I really don't get why we have spent so much money on uniforms, changes in slight color scheme. Let's go back to BDUs and DCUs, change the pockets on them and get it over with. How much have we as the DoD spent on Uniforms in the past 10-12 years? Now we're handing out pink slips to deployed soldiers? I think someone in Higher needs to get their shit straight. A total waste of money to field test something that really does not matter how it looks as it has nothing to do with deployment (not being seen by enemy). Why bother? <div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Remember folks that we will always have change...as each new day brings new challenges. I was there at the onset when we wore the Banana suits through the old and new Army Grey into the Army Black...<br /><br />When I was a Company Commander (Med Co) at the Interim Brigade Combat Team (Yeah, remember that before we had the Units of Action and Stryker Brigades), this evolutionary step... it wasn't perfect, wasn't close to the version that we have now. But it was a start and we tried to make the best of it at the Company level where it mattered. I recall reading a white paper that spoke to a different transformation. One in which the Army went through Eight major redesigns in the 80 years following the turn from the 19th Century, it included a Motorized Rifle Regiment and other versions of a Regimental Triad.<br />What am I trying to say here? We are a creature of habit, an organization that, for good and bad, is in constant flux in response to the environment that we live, train and fight in. As that environment changes, we need to change with it. Hopefully to a point that prepares us for being better prepared to engage and overcome the adversities that come with both recurring (OEF) and new enemies (ISIS). I understand the need of the Soldier to gripe and complain, we all do.<br />But try to keep it in perspective and truly question that rationale if and only if it impedes your ability to train for and conduct the mission that we all signed up to do. Support and defend the Constitution of our Nation.MAJ Timothy HaleSat, 23 Aug 2014 14:37:32 -04002014-08-23T14:37:32-04:00Response by CW3 Terry Tanner made Aug 30 at 2014 8:49 AM

I personally believe the change for an advanced performance material is the right one. Although I like the color black, I think it could be dangerous in the dark and very hot in the sun. The moisture wicking material may take care of the heat concern and the yellow print may be extremely reflective. I know I was sent a survey on this subject, and submitted my suggestions. I would be curious to know if the colors chosen were based on the survey submissions, which would mean out of the choices we were given we are getting what we suggested.CW3 Terry TannerSat, 30 Aug 2014 08:49:29 -04002014-08-30T08:49:29-04:00Response by SFC Mark Merino made Aug 31 at 2014 5:00 PM

<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Nothing was wrong with the PT Uniform from the 1970's, you do PT in the damn things not a formal inspection, they could have changed the fabric, as needed, but shorts are shorts and tee shirts are tee shirts, sweats are sweats, most troops are not going to the Olympics and don't need a suit that resists the wind and makes you run 1/10 of a mile an hour faster, they need to be able to do PT in them. The reversible yellow/black tee with yellow shorts allowed for just that!CW2 Ernest KrutzschSun, 31 Aug 2014 20:20:45 -04002014-08-31T20:20:45-04:00Response by SFC Private RallyPoint Member made Sep 1 at 2014 10:52 AM

Just paint a target on me....... good think that most Hajjis couldn't shoot. <br /><br />On the FOB I got reamed out by a Marine Gunny for not having my reflective belt on, not being in the proper uniform (I was a contractor) and having both ear buds in my ears (I have 80% hearing loss and couldn't have heard squat without my aids). The butt chewing felt good..... Like old times. My ever present Battle/Ranger Buddy had to tell me when the siren went off cause' I couldn't hear it. I was the joke of the FOB. <div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>The APFU is both good and bad (hope for the best, plan for the worst, & get something in the middle).<br />THE GOOD: The shorts are fantastic with a built in liner like the bike shorts most of us already wear under the current version, improved pockets (2) for keys/ID etc. The shirts are comfortable with some form of moisture wicking, no more turtle neck on the LS, and a sewn in square for name marking. The jacket and pants have adjustable cuffs and the material no longer makes a lot of noise when you walk or your arm touches the torso.<br />THE BAD: The LS shirt is thin like the SS so warmth is an issue. Neither the jacket nor the pants are lined so cold weather is going to be a serious challenge.<br />THE UGLY: The supply chain was already strained keeping up with the old APFU, when the roll out took place for the new version the closest active duty base to me (3 hours) had only received size L shorts and did not expect to receive any additional shipments in the immediate future.<br />*** The PT Belt is still our required force field against all threats as the reflective material was removed as both a cost saving measure and in consideration of tactical environments.1SG Private RallyPoint MemberThu, 07 May 2015 13:17:16 -04002015-05-07T13:17:16-04:00Response by CH (MAJ) William Beaver made May 7 at 2015 5:08 PM

<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>I agree with you on this one. Uniform changes are getting old really quick. Pick it, and stick with it. I was fine with the BDUs and the grey sweats. I prefer to spend my annual clothing maintenance on my current uniform (sewing, dry cleaning, new boots, etc.) as opposed to buying a new uniform all together. Change can be good, but when it changes every couple of years, it gets exhausting. I understand the thought process behind trying to improve "combat readiness", but we have more important things to worry about than the uniform color.SSG Private RallyPoint MemberMon, 26 Oct 2015 23:46:07 -04002015-10-26T23:46:07-04:00Response by MAJ David Vermillion made Oct 28 at 2015 6:17 PM
