I would like to provide some background on this.
The Soldier in Question is holding the Flag for an "Evidence Photograph."
He is NOT expressing Free Speech or Protest. He is the unfortunate victim of Social Media gone awry. This is an OLD story that gets circulated several times a year, and will likely haunt him forever.
He is literally doing his duty by presenting the flag so that it can be used in evidence, nothing more.

CPO Joseph Grant - never forget, when the facts are left out & simply a photo shown, or incorrect text w/ said photo...
Sgt Aaron Kennedy, MS - perhaps they could've taken the photo where it did not include his face or name tape (or remove his blouse before taking photo)?

SSgt (Join to see) Concur. However, I think this can likely be explained with Occam's Razor. They never expected it to be released, so they just held it up, took the picture and didn't even think about it.
I'm willing to bet cash money there are "rules" now about this kind of thing.

LCpl Mark Lefler I read a few of the comments below and it was instant attack mode. Sgt Aaron Kennedy, MS is correct in his thread and the original post should be updated to report that this wasn't an attack to protect the SM's honor while displaying evidence.

Honestly, this is a great object lesson. LCpl Mark Lefler did not specifically make any statements in his original post, though he could have. We all made assumptions based on the image (I did when I first saw it years ago). It's only when presented with new information that we adjust our opinions.
What's great about RP is how quickly folks do adjust opinions with new information. That's what I love about this venue.

Sgt Aaron Kennedy, MS It can only be a lesson if those that went on the attack come back and read your post. Too many people form their opinion based on the first soundbite they see, everything after will be noise to filter out.

Cpl (Join to see) In the general population that is very true. In RP, we're pretty good about revisiting though, so I tend to give more benefit of the doubt.

I just feel terrible for him. He's been vilified for years and no one ever seems to wonder why a soldier would do that with name tape on full display. It's a damn shame that he'll probably have to deal with years of bad reputation for doing exactly what he was supposed to do.
