Nowadays, most folks live in populated areas with (depending on your carrier) ample cellular coverage. People have access to the Internet and can use Skype or another service similar to Skype. As for for me, I tend to travel a lot, so it isn&#39;t cost effective to keep a land line.<br /><br />I&#39;ve cut the cord since 2008. We ditched the land line six years ago and have not missed it one bit, particularly not the $49.00 per month charge. We make a lot of overseas calls and save a lot with it over the years. I have not had a landline for about 15 years.<br /><br />Other services such as Skype or unseen.is are also great and free ways to communicate. Once toll calls and long-distance fees went away from cellular, land line became obsolete. Alot of our area has been hit by both major power outages as well as Fires that have effected cell towers. If you use a landline, the call is routed to your local first response dispatch (police/fire). seconds save lives.
