I still like "Be all that you can be", COL Mikel J. Burroughs. "Army Strong" is still good. "Army of One" was kind of stupid. Maybe I just never knew exactly what that meant.

Maybe, just maybe we could bring back "Be all that you can be.". I know what you're thinking, we've already done that before. It was by far the best slogan the army ever had and that should be enough to think that it should make a comeback. Problem solved, now let's try to go 50 years without trying to change it. I remember the change to army of one (stupid), then army strong (sounded like some mouth-breather came up with it). Neither one sounds like something that attracts the best people. Army of one implies that we're creating one man armies like it's call of duty, army strong at least states the goal, but places the adjective after the noun so it reads like something written by someone without a fundamental understanding of how the English language works.

Why does the Army keep on trying to reinvent itself? "The Proud, The Few, The Marines" has stood the Marines in good stead for decades. Stick with "Be All You Can Be!" And if you really, really think you need a change, stick with "Army Strong"! "Be All You Can Be" speaks to all ranks and encourages the BEST out of each soldier. Really, that is a keeper. I was always embarrassed to be around our fellow brothers in arms from the other branches, each time we changed our slogan. Especially the Marines. Everyone wanted to know if we knew who or what we were. Some even suggested we use the Boy Scout slogan. Decades from now that motto will mean just as much then as now.

TSgt LaPonte, unfortunately in the group of spec forces I was in- the infantry men were a bunch of whining ass women.

SSgt Nelson- It’s not a question of Are we ready to be marines yet, but why join an outfit that is a : Fobbit group, or should get Nutt to Butt, or where most are PowerPointRangers, and I’m not sure I’d want to do pt in Rainbow Gear, I especially don’t want to be a Sea Going Bellhop! I’m also aware that Marines actually means: Muscle Always Required, Intelligence Not Essential.

As an army guy I joke about marines being ravenous crayon eaters, window lickers, and just all around stupid. And we can also add that marine means: My ass rides in navy equipment.
So to answer your question? I’m not sure many other forces wanna follow in marine footsteps, y’all are way to overrated.

I prefer something akin to "Be all that you can be" COL Mikel J. Burroughs because that brought to mind fulfilling individual goals as part of a team,
I didn't like "Army Strong" or "Army of One" because the focused on the entire entity.
I think the Army slogan needs to link individual asperations to improving the Army.

I’m happy with the United States Army! Why do we need to keep coming up with slogans every decade? Is, “Congress All It Can Be?”, or the “Senate All Of One?” constantly changing from decade to decade - no... Personally I think it’s a damn waste of my tax money. As an all-volunteer service to ones country such as it is, they don’t articulate all the benefits of a GS/WG worker either through mass media do they...? It’s just another service element of the US Government - Right? Cannot each of these positions also earn medals, retirement funds, 401Ks, retired healthcare benefits, etc.? The military benefits have dwindled so much so that the civilian side is almost just as tempting as the military side is today if you look at the two in a side-by-side comparison, REALLY! As a retiree, we just went to the Federal side for Dental/Vision come FY19. With GS able to rate military OER/NCOERs its all there as well (if some of you didn’t know)...
So in closing, my choice, kill the budget for the slogan, put those wasted millions back into the much needed force upgrades in equipment and force structure and stick with the good ole United States Army!
Just this retired NCO’s thoughts - put that money where it belongs!

My devious side has me thinking back to the Army marches on its belly. Marching on regulations hasn't done much. That said, my aged opinion is irrelevant as it needs to be something that catches the fresh young meat. If that means "Army Tattoos Matter", hey whatever it takes to pull them in. A lot of what I've seen in this thread makes me proud, but we're not the target.

Well, the Air Force's term for soldiers was "targets." However, I cannot see that going over well as a slogan. I suppose that also means that "Visit exotic lands, meet new people, and kill them all" is out, too. More seriously, one idea is "Forever Force, Forever Army."

All jokes aside, since they're doing throwback uniforms (great idea, honestly,) they should just go back to "Be all you can be." It was effective, simple, and didn't lend itself to mockery like "An Army of one" (now THERE's a busy motherfucker... but what about "No 'I' in team?") or Army Strong (Grimlock smash?).
Now if we could just fix the Navy's slogans... We've got it just as bad, but we don't even have a good 80s slogan to return to.

I always thought "Army of one" was gay. I joined in 04 aand basically, thought basic training sucked. The military in general needs to get off their personal agendas as one branch whatever. Mariners, are the Navy's infantry, plain and simple. The Army, will forever be the commander of whatever ground troops there are in need of. No one really knows why the USAF exists, they fly the Army in everything they Army needs anyways. This whole uniform separation bullshit is taxing the country to death. 5 uniforms since 9/11 is absolutely ridiculous. If we're going to be one nation, one purpose, we need to behave in 1 uniform. Certain kind jobs I guess can have certain uniforms, but essentially that's what happened during wwii. But whatever... COL., I like the concept of your new slogan suggestion and wish it could be true. But being realistic or pessimistic, we old timers know it'd never be 100% correct. All Services do make young Men and Women better prepared for their futures if they want to succeed or be successful. However, all will not make it. I'm not Army and this is only my opinion, but I still like the Slogan of "Be The Best You Can Be, Army Strong"! Respectfully, Doc Bradshaw (Marine Doc).

Army Strong sounds fine with me because we are strong once we are in uniform and standing together. Every job is important. The Army is like a fine tuned machine and all parts are necessary to make the one machine work.

Be all you can be is my favorite. Instills self-confidence and constant self-improvement.
Army of one was bad because it promotes individualism, completely opposite of the Army Team concept.
Army strong does nothing inspirational.

I would like to think that there will be no more need for ARMY slogans in the future, as we humans are "waking-up" in mass to the full recognition that killing others of our own kind is an antiquated (mind control program) mind set, only perpetuated by neanderthal war mongers.

My current bumper-sticker on my truck says, "Be All That You Can Be, Kill Your TV". I envision future spiritual-warriors will think slogans like, "Join the Army, Visit Exotic Distant Lands, Meet wonderful Cultured People, and Kill them".

From the time I was a kid until I went into recruiting in 2001 be all you can be was to my knowledge the most recognized slogan. Not soon after I went to recruiting the BAYCB info was trashed and youd get in trouble if the command found it. I think BAYCB with some 21st century marketing could come back to influence more generations to serve.

When I enlisted, we'd march to class in the winter at APG with the wind just blowing across the bay, seeming to be coming directly from Siberia. Georgraphically impossible, but still..anway, the NCOIC of the classroom complex would let us into our classroom where we could turn on the heat and watch the closed circuit TV. Kind just letting it drone until they played "Join the People Who Joined the Army" which I remember as being ok but it had great videos of guys walking down walls doing Australian rappels with a M16 under each arm. But, I agree with Col Burroughs -- Bring Back "Be all that you can be..." although the tagline to the best of those commercials, the paratrooper looking at the First Sergeant and saying, "Good morning, First Sergeant" while drinking a cup of coffee was classic. And, "Good morning, First Sergeant!" wouldn't be a bad way for any soldier to sound off. Others I heard used in recruiting test commercials included, "Freedom isn't Free!" which I kind of liked and "Do It For the Flag" which I thought missed the whole point.

"Today's Warriors, Tomorrows Leaders!" is a good suggestion. Leadership does not mean only government leadership, but it does reflect the fact that currently many veterans are running for office. Of course we always need more veterans to be part of government decision making in all branches of government. I still like "Be All You Can Be" though - so it's a toss up between the two. Both suggest that by providing something of value (yourself) there is the potential to earn something of value (yourself - new and improved).

As long as it isn't "Army of One." That one had us loosing our USMC minds! We're all about the team effort, and that just made us all trade unblinking stares and snort laughs for a moment, as our minds went back to Boot Camp, and the familiar bellow of a DI snarling that there was no "I" in team!
