How long has she been gone? That should dictate the appropriate punishment. Just read the she was Dropped From the Rolls (DFR) as a deserter so Id say court-martial and then whatever they decide along the lines of the men who have done the same. No different because she's a female with a husband and child at home.

She will be processed just like previous Trainees who have pulled similar stunts in TRADOC; this is nothing new except for the media hype. There's a slim chance based upon her personal circumstances that she could be a day one recycle. However, from a former Commander's perspective, I just see a discharge based on failure to adapt. I'd rather not take that chance of keeping her on the books for it to happen again.

This also happens to owners of a penis. This is, in short, a non-story. She's a douchebag. Plenty of those in both genders. Pass her over, and keep looking for the next gem.

Investigation into the facts of the case leading to possible Art 15/Summary CM then likely administrative discharge.

NO ONE wants this to be a media circus. Everyone wants this to just quietly go away. If she wants to stay in the Army, the Command will likely work with her (day 1 recycle) and do everything in their power to make her a "perfect soldier" from this day forward. If she doesn't, they will likely work with her, and get her out the door as quietly as possible, and make it "appear" as non-punitive as possible. We don't want anyone who doesn't want to be here either. They're a liability, and just a problem waiting to boil over in the future.

she should be brought before her unit and stripped of all rank and insignia, she should be forced to pay back any incentive pay/bonuses that she has accrued; then chaptered out. Dishonorable discharge on her DD214.

she will PROBABLY get a slap on the wrist, then a reprimand, if she's a E4 or below, and 'naughty letter' "Don't do this again...etc" E5 -E7, bad ncoer but returned to service. I however, do not know all the facts though.

Not knowing the specific circumstances it’s impossible to say. Article 15 at a minimum… then the trainee/soldier (I didn’t see the status of the person identified) has to be looked at closely to decide if the person can be recycled/salvaged, for lack of a better word.

To me one of the best practices in the military is the ability of senior NCO’s and Officers to use discretion in cases like this for the good of the service “and” the person. Most of the time it works out, sometimes it doesn’t.

None of your answers are what normally happens. She'll most likely be processed back in from her DFR and then given a Chapter 13 or 14. and sent on her way. Just like hundreds of trainees every year.

She was in less than 180 days. Chances are entry level separation for good of service with an re code of 3. If they allow moral waivers she'll be eligible to reenlist after a year(?).

She shouldn't of been a 12B to start with. I was a 12B for 8 years and a Desert Storm vet. There is a place for women in the Army just NOT IN combat MOS's.

I know of a guy that deserted during training at Ft. Lenardwood, MO when I was there in March 2001 and he called the base after a few days telling them that he was sorry for leaving and whatever else he said. He got recycled to a new company and the last I heard he ended up finishing basic training. So it depends on the soldiers demeanor and what the command feels about the situation.
