What does a 31B do on drill for the National Guard?

It's one of the jobs I'm looking at reclassing to. I'm curious what some of you who have served as 31B in the National Guard did while on drill.

Some states send them to Chase AWOLs from BTA. Not t sure if they do anymore.

Depends on their mission. I was part of a Law and Order detachment. We would go to ranges, do classes on non lethal weapons training, drivers training, run scenarios that we would encounter on the road. Others are more of a field focus so look into your local units!

It depends. Usually it is some form of training. Due to the limited time you have on drill and all of the online training requirements in addition to other requirements (apft, ranges, pha, etc.), your unit should have a proactive training schedule that helps retain/ improve MOS specific tasks. For Annual Training your unit may go perform MP duties at an active duty base augmenting the Units stationed there. In addition to this you will be eligible to request NCOES and other courses within the MOS field.

Really it depends on the individual training unit, where they are in their “cycle”, and the leadership in place.

I’m currently on track to commission in May and right now, have the “absolute luxury” of drilling with a 31 series unit that... for lack of a better word... lacks discipline, fitness, tactical tasks and skills, and so on.

Now if you go next door and check out the sister 31 series unit, they have a better training plan and system going on.

So do your research and even try to visit drill weekends and sit down with the FTS of those units if you like what you see.

As for me, from an 11B standpoint, after seeing 31 series training, my heart and loyalty lays within the Blue.

Depending upon unit. My MPs at camp Atterburry did garrison patrols on drill weekends. But not all are garrison units.

You have class om MOS and CCT Training both day or you can be at the 9m,m and 16 range for the weekend

They train on Common Task and MOS related tasks, just as Soldiers in other CMFs do.
