What does it mean if I submit a DA1058 for DL ILE? To what am I obligating myself?

So I'm IRR (been off AD for several years). I was wanting to try ILE DL honestly just for the learning opportunity as I get bored easily haha. I'm only interested in DL as it would cost me far more in wages if I were to take time off from my job than is worth it.
As you may imagine, it's difficult finding information or even asking questions in IRR because there's no unit. I emailed the AMEDD IRR liaison. I was told I would
"need to submit a DA1058 to their team mailbox. You will also need to meet requirements such as completion of BOLC, CCC, current PHA, HIV, APFT and Security Clearance."
I completed CCC years ago and my TSSCI is still valid for at least a little longer. I'm sure I could find someone to grade an APFT/PHA if I need. The 1058 request for active duty though... Can someone explain what that means? What am I obligating myself to?
Before I go down this road, I was hoping to find out some more about ILE as honestly I'm only doing it for my own edification so I'm not big on jumping through hoops.
I initially heard P1 and P3 were online but P2 required some in person travel/work. Is there a way to do it all online? Aside from coursework would anything else be required (after the APFT before starting for instance)? Any travel, additional APFT, etc?
I'm an emergency physician now so am considering branch switch to the Reserves perhaps next year, but in the mean time I figured this would get my feet wet in Army service to see if I want to keep doing anything.
Any thoughts/help would be great. Thank you.

I think you need to ask the IRR liaison that question. My information is dated, but there were several options for ILE
- sister service resident (I did this option)
-resident ILE
- a blended ILE where it was distance and a short TDY "common core" offered in several locations
- there was a pure on line option that required special permission from the Army G3/5/7 usually for people who were out of pocket due to high deployment OPTEMPO. It was not readily offered. Or granted.
ILE is to prepare you to serve as a field grade staff officer and Commander. Make you conversant in the operational level of warfare. Get you one step in the Joint qualification with JPME I. There is a ton of very specific and dense reading like Clausewitz, Mao, Sun Szu, Mahan, Corbett, Douhet, Jomini etc beyond the bumper stickers and cherry picked quotes. You'll be immersed in MDMP, JOPP, and other joint level systems and processes. There are some branch specific pieces, but what I just mentioned if the common piece so you can better apply your branch expertise to planning and operations processes.
Not sure it is something you dabble in and it's a big deal if you fail to complete the course.
If you are considering joining a TPU, I would wait until you do that before doing ILE.

The DA 1058 is APPLICATION FOR ACTIVE DUTY FOR TRAINING, ACTIVE DUTY FOR OPERATIONAL SUPPORT, AND ANNUAL TRAINING FOR SOLDIERS OF THE ARMY NATIONAL GUARD AND U.S. ARMY RESERVE. Basically it's a request for orders to attend training. It may or may not be needed since you are requesting a DL course. HRC is required to have somthing in writing showing you (the Soldier) wants to participate in an activity.
General Staff College is now 1/2 ILE and 1/2 AOC (or FA-functional area). Not sure if AMEDD has their own course...
I have completed PH1 DL. It is through blackboard and could be completed in a couple weeks. Wasn't difficult, (required a few quizes, 2 wrtten assignments, and a final exam) but I didn't understand a lot or learn anything on my own. I'm sure if I put more effort in I could have learned more, but this is not my learning stlye.
