What does "service to others" mean to you?

I recently had a patient who was a friend I had to transport to an ER. He passed away a few days later but had the chance to say good bye to his wife, children, and other family. He wouldn't have had that without the efforts of me and my EMS partner. He told me he would pay me back after he got out of the hospital. I knew his illness was serious but never thought he wouldn't make it home. I had to take a hard look at my chosen profession. In the end, I realized I am exactly where I need to be. Helping those who may never be able to repay me.

What about you? How do you define "service to others" and what does it mean to you?

I'm in the PGR, Legion Riders, Vet Peer Group Counseling and most of the other organized groups. Since I'm retired, it's my way of helping my brothers and sisters or their family in any way I can. Thank you for helping those you can, using your skills.

That is our motto in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; that of serving all our brothers and sisters in need and remembering their contributions (not money) to the communities. We are all sons and daughters of our Heavenly Father and it is our goal to always remember others in time of need. We in the Church have a home teaching/visiting teacher program whereby each member visits assigned families each month. It's a good way to stay in touch, to help others, and build the faith of our brethren and sisters.

To me it's reaching down and lifting someone whom may be less fortunate. With no expectation of anything in return. I enjoy creating joy for others, sharing with them often brings an illuminating smile which is priceless.

Placing the needs of another above your own with no thought or intention of ever receiving any sort of reward or payment. Doesn't have to be anything epic, either. Can be as simple as donating blood, volunteering at a food bank, visiting residents in the old folks' home, etc.
