What does the Army look for in an OCS packet? What advice would you have for someone putting together an OCS packet?

Does anyone have any insight on what they are looking for in a OCS packet? I recently tried my hand at green to gold but was denied. I am the NCOIC in the BNS1, I made E6 in 6 years. I have been rated above my peers I have my bachelors but yet I don't know why I got denied. But the resilient NCO in me said ok give yourself a day to be down then hit the ground running. I am now building a packet for OCS. What advice would anyone have ? Thank you

Sounds like your career will stand on what it is. You’re doing it at about the same time I did it as an NCO so you should have had experience working with / alongside some pretty high-ranking officers. Something that might help would be to get your LORs from at least a COL or above. Other than that it sounds like your packet will be straight. Just start preparing yourself for the board and ensure you have answers to questions like “Why do you want to become an officer.” Good luck.

I went through a similar situation. My AECP packet (Nursing G2G) was denied and I was shocked. That disappointment just made me try harder. I ended up ETSing to go to ROTC and just recently commissioned.

I’m not an OCS guy so I can’t help you much there but I can tell based off of your drive you will be successful. Good luck SSG Green

I just got accepted to OCS, prior service. If you need help with your packet let me know. First step you need to do is get FY 2020 MILPRE Message for OCS.
