Honor is more than just a word it’s an action without thought. When you will stand up or beside someone because they need your support, assistance or just your strength to get them through. To know right from wrong and stand up for justice even if it hurts you along the way. A person who has Honor may be scared going into a situation but they’ll still tread in knowing it’s the right thing to do. Honor is something to hold True to and it’s not something that can be faked because if you have it it’s an ingrained part of you. Honor knows no bounds.

The word Honor is a very meaningful word for me that can be described in different ways. Generally, I was honored to serve my country. But more specifically, the honor I felt on two specific occasions are profoundly more meaningful. First: when I had the opportunity to shake the hand of King Olav of Norway during my final tour with the USAF at NATO Kolsaas. Second: the day that I swore in as a Peace Corps Volunteer was the day that I felt the most profound honor in my life.

In years back, they would say your word is your bond. Handshake deals were common in business. It's a quality that we seem to have lost for the most part. Honor means one follows through with principles based on common sense and respect. You don't have to be religious to have honor. It comes from the heart.

For me, Honor is something we do to recognize someone else. We honor somebody, for example, by hanging their portrait up where people can see and ask about and when they ask we honor the person by telling what is was about them that made them important enough for us to hold them in such high place. The things he achieved and the people he influenced.

Here, in lieu of answering both questions, I will give a comparison between Honor and Respect as I see it and that all can understand...I Honor all Veterans for serving our Country in whatever way they did so, before coming home. Respect is almost the same as Honor, but before Respect one is honored. As an example I Honor and Respect our Fallen and our POW MIA's not only for their service, but for their sacrifice to me and to you. All should be help in the highest of Honor and Respect. Bring them all home!

Honor. Means respecting the history of those that have sacrificed and toiled to elevate a cause or ideal. We honor those that gave to our common goal, their leadership, efforts and sacrifice of health and wealth. Just as in battlefields spanning our legacy, our flag represents the history of those that gave of themselves and we honored them with flag bearers that led assaults on the battlefield or raising the flag after taking of a objective. What honor means to me is standing up to my responsibly. As a soldier in Iraq, it was my duty to defend our perimeter against enemy combatants until help could arrive. Although I was alone, I stood my ground knowing this was my assignment and intended to do it well.

Your muscle memory kicks in when an emergency occurs and you are called to accomplish the mission. You will bring Honor to yourself and your family name. Honor means taking pride in what you believe in and stand for. It is a sense of respect and integrity seen in looking up to those who we see as role models and mentors. Honor denotes credibility and respect for oneself and another’s position in life. Honor has a specific unwritten code that can also be transparent without spoken word. For instance, I feel a sense of honor when I see someone in uniform as the armed services,physician, nurse, teachers lawyers, judges or the US President.

Honor is the respect and the feeling that you are needed and the possibility to find the solution for the different situations, but at the same time not to broke your own principles. We have this quality when we are born, but it depends only on us if we wish to develop it.

This quality will help us to understand not our own importance, but also the importance of all other people, that live around and which we can see every day in our life. People, which have this quality, respect other people and they cannot afford themselves to be rude or impolite. Also, the honor can give you the confidence in your power and to change your life in the better way. Honor is a mighty thing. The word has been used, abundantly, by media and, by many who haven't a clue. They simply don't know about what this designation should truly confer .
To be honored or, to possess the character attribute of Honor, passion is necessary. This passion of which I speak, isn't the type of feel- good, hand-clapping, token recognition that accompanies many public events.
Veterans are routinely called upon to stand, in public. There are cheers and, sometimes tears, but passion and true Honor go much deeper.
I've heard many a veteran state, "I'm no 'hero'!". I then observe others who try to persuade that veteran that he or she actually is a hero. If they're speaking to a person who, in the course of following orders, was required to perform less- than- honorable duty, the honor falls upon fallow ground.
Honor is earned. Passion accompanies it, deeply into the soul. My father was a truly honorable man who received no accolades for his service, but his humble and gentle, unconditional love changed hundreds of lives. When in his 70s, every Saturday morning at 0530, he was on his way to the county jail to bear witness of his Christianity to the inmates. Over 120 men found the narrow path that leads to knowledge that truly changes one's direction, in life.
Honor is accompanied by passion and, by integrity. A person who is worthy of honor will not speak foolish lies, nor grandiose tales by which to elevate his or her image in the eyes of others.
Pontificating patriotism can be snuffed out by the next political move. True honor and integrity will not die,even if it means one must lose his or her own life to defend a principle; a belief; passionate position; a thing of honor.
In my 54 years, I've met few, truly honorable people. I've seen, literally, thousands who recieved what was designated as honor however, this was not the case.
Honor of a humble person who possesses humility, unconditional love, brevity, consistency and passion for the cause is, indeed, honor well- deserved and authentic.
This is what honor means, to me.
Far from patronizing, festive recognition, it's sincere appreciation for a truly honorable person.

Honor is something I feel the most when I visit the Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan. My brother was among the first of our veterans to be interred there in early November of 2005. I was changed in the way that I now respect and admire those who went before me, so much more. There is a reverence and a dedication to their service that takes on an importance and a devotion that is unequaled in other everyday endeavors. Honor is holding oneself to ones highest standard of thought and conduct in all things, and encouraging those around you to do the same by your example. Honor is not easy. It is a burden carried not with pride but with humble determination. Honor withstands the challenge of this burden even when the easier path beckons. Others pay lip service to things like patriotism, justice, truth and fair play, while re-defining these terms to suit their own self-interest. An honorable person defines these words with clear eyes and a strong heart. It can be disheartening to watch the truly dishonorable seem to succeed and prosper from nefarious actions. But honor is it's own reward, and must only to itself be true. Honor knows fear and does not hide. When foes attack and friendships fail, honor stands fast and shall prevail. Honor owns its mistakes, blames no one else, and strives to improve. Honor is standing up for the Constitution and the oath everyone takes when they enter the military. It is standing up for the US and the laws promulgated by the federal government and the state governments. If a law is passed and implemented by the US or a state that would 'violate the Constitution, regardless of the Supreme Court's interpretation of the Constitution, then Honor is opposing that Supreme Court decision. An example would be if you believe that the 2nd Amendmentvdoes did not allow anyone to own and carry an AR-15 in spite of the Supreme Court's decision to allow such, then Honor demands you stand up and oppose that decision.

Honor is having Integrity. My father was drafted, Bill Naylor became my best friend seconds after we met, that friendship lasted until 6am the day after Father’s Day when he chose to die in the VA under hospice care. Bill Naylor’s character emulated Honor, Duty, Integrity right from the first moment he greeted me as a work study student at HVCC. He attended my Marriage and loved Suzy as His own Daughter. Bill loved my four Daughters and treated them as His own Grandchildren.
The last four years of Bill Naylor’s life He lived with our Family. He enlisted in World War Two in 1942 - 1945 , and applied to reenlist in 1959 for Vietnam. He was Honorably Discharged in 45 , from the Army Air Force. Again He received an Honorable Discharge in 62 , from the Air Force. Bill Naylor will never be forgotten.
That is what HONOR means.

Honor is a Code of conduct, an ethical culture of Principles, Values, Standards, and Rules of Behavior.
Modern man has subsequently found a way to avoid the responsibilities associated with true Honor and rewrite the Commandments to furtherance their own covets.

Honor has many meanings to those of us who have served. Honor is usually defined as honor, duty, and sacrifice. As I reflect on these words many meanings and memories come to mind. I am a mother and a wife to military. Between the ARMY and the Marines, I have watched and waited and prayed for my family to serve and return. Thankfully and with God's WILL watching over them and guiding them along with his protection they ALL came back home. All of my family demonstrated and served with honor. Now they are all medically retired but not before they demonstrated their HONOR to their country. Honor is served not only on the battlefields but once they return home. Displaying honor while transitioning back into civilian life. Honor is displayed by their actions. Showing their community, they are here to volunteer and serve where they are needed. Serving their faith demonstrating that while honoring their religious beliefs while deployed strength was provided to them by their heavenly Father. As we prepare to celebrate our Independence Day watch how our service men and women display their honor. It is a beautiful sight to behold. I am honored to be a wife of a medically retired ARMY SGT, and a mother to both my ARMY SGTS. my daughter and my son who proudly served and my son a Marine who recently retired after a ten-year service. HONOR, DUTY sacrifice is a family tradition in our home.

Honor is doing the right thing regardless of cost, financial or personal. It is seeing a car on the side of the road and stopping to help, even if it makes you late to an appointment. It is seeing the person in front of you in a check out line counting pennies and you offering to help pay. But is it more than that. It is being willing to sacrifice your time, and your life, to help defend those who may never know it was you.

Jesus to me is an embodiment of honor. He saw that we were perishing and if we died we would go to hell. So He gave himself up to be that sacrifice so that we could live. Honor means trying to fulfill your commitment to the Service you Volunteered for and tried to stay in even after getting injured. But on the other aspect of the spectrum of Honor is DisHonor, which the VA has done a complete Dis Honor towards me for 36 plus years including the 1st 23 years when they refused medical help for me after I was Medically Discharged from the Navy with Medical records from my Ship, the Air Force Base where I had Physical Therapy and Portsmouth Naval Hospital whee they determined that after seven weeks I was not fit due to my injuries on the ship. But the VA decided that those Dr's. were wrong in there easement and the civilian Dr. who looked at me in 1986 for an couple of hours said there was nothing wrong with me and then the VA sent the Letters to the same wrong address for the next 24 years so I never had an opportunity to get to appeal any of my claims. So The VA has Dis Honored Me as a Disabled Veteran and doesn't even care if I had 3 suicide attempts during those 36 plus years. So there is not much Honor left in the Government for the Mistreatment of the Disabled Veteran still to this day and that's why there is such a High rate of Suicide with the Veterans because we can't fight the VA ,they have all these Laywers and they have beaten me where I have finally have given up and just will not even leave my house anymore. Thank you for what you have done for me VA.

We are taught to love, honor and obey our parents but as we grow older we no longer do things as children, therefore our love, honor and obey changes with understanding and maturity. You honor the thing in the way it requires. As a child your honored your parents by listening and when they are old you honor them by taking care of them. Honor means trying to fulfill your commitment to the Service you Volunteered for and tried to stay in even after getting injured. But on the other aspect of the spectrum of Honor is DisHonor, which the VA has done a complete Dis Honor towards me for 36 plus years including the 1st 23 years when they refused medical help for me after I was Medically Discharged from the Navy with Medical records from my Ship, the Air Force Base where I had Physical Therapy and Portsmouth Naval Hospital whee they determined that after seven weeks I was not fit due to my injuries on the ship. But the VA decided that those Dr's. were wrong in there easement and the civilian Dr. who looked at me in 1986 for an couple of hours said there was nothing wrong hours said there was nothing wrong with me and then the VA sent the Letters to the same wrong address for the next 24 years so I never had an opportunity to get to appeal any of my claims. So The VA has Dis Honored Me as a Disabled Veteran and doesn't even care if I had 3 suicide attempts during those 36 plus years. So there is not much Honor left in the Government for the Mistreatment of the Disabled Veteran still to this day and that's why there is such a High rate of Suicide with the Veterans because we can't fight the VA,they have all these Laywers and they have beaten me where I have finally have given up and just will not even leave my house anymore. Thank you for what you have done for me VA.

Honor in a European/American sense is a multi-faceted term. Honor isn’t taught in schools. Honor is not taught except in a very limited sense in the military. Honor is not taught in politics or government. Honor was once a major part of our society much encompassed in the term, an officer and gentleman. So what is honor? The term honor can’t be replaced by synonyms like belonging or integrity because it so very much more. Most words I’ve seen are too easily interpreted to the moment rather than to an effective meaning. The closest single word that can be equated to honor is probably the virtue of “morality”. Even morality is rather over broad but I’ll define it here as essentially following the rules laid down in Jewish, Christian, Islamic (and other) teachings. In secular terms it would be doing what is right and in accordance with the “golden rule” in everything you do.

The key aspects include;
One cannot have honor if they do not speak/write with TRUTHFULNESS and HONESTY and without deception, It include doing what you say you’ll do and following through on your word.

It includes LOYALTY to the Country at all levels. This means you give loyalty to your neighbors, your community, your state, your supervisors, subordinates, your service or job and your government. At the same time loyalty is not blind loyalty because honor and doing the right thing means fighting back against frauds, cheats, bullies, oppressors or those dishonorable persons.

Honor includes FAITHFULNESS and devotion to others as well as superiors, subordinates, and founders. It’s about working together toward the best solution for the greater group and everyone does their utmost to achieve “honor”. It’s about developing the TRUST of the community and being able to return the trust.

PRIDE is another part of honor. When one is honorable they can both take pride in their direct contributions, pride in the outcome, pride in the accomplishments of the group.

As you can probably tell, to me true honor is multi-faceted. Honor is also very difficult to achieve in today’s society because we’ve concentrated on self-centeredness for so long and even teams that are built are exclusively for the benefit of the smaller group. (The cause of interservice rivalries (not the healthy kind), the quest for awards and promotion above all else, and the tendency for leaders who predominantly befall the Peter principle.)

The word honor means to me a two way street where one stands by their commitments with integrity, and also means receiving recognition for something done, as in being honored.
