I don't really truck with this concept. Life is a series of choices. I chose to serve my country. There were "sacrifices" that came with that choice. But they weren't ACTUALLY sacrifices. There were consequences of decisions. In choosing to serve my country, I CHOSE to subordinate my will. I CHOSE to live in austere conditions. I CHOSE to eat MREs - or occasionally miss meals altogether. Those weren't sacrifices they were conscious decisions and/or unknown, but still resultant consequences of my decisions.

In my experience, the people who feel like they have sacrificed are giving away their personal agency - usually in attempt to play the victim card, the martyr card, or the hero card.

Just this morning I spent $1000 to post bail for one of my wife's friends. Did I sacrifice anything? No, I made a conscious decision that the welfare of my wife's friend was more important than that $1000 sitting in the bank. Sure, if my car breaks down, I'm screwed (since the money came for my car maintenance / replacement fund). But I made a choice, and I accept the risk. Because I CHOSE to do this.

Most of our MoH heros are noted for their "sacrifice." But when they are interviewed, for the most part, they talk about the choice they made to take care of their buddies. They weren't thinking about themselves. In their minds, they weren't sacrificing shit. They were making hard choices to take care of their battle buddies.

At least that's how I see it.

Sacrifice to me, isn't sacrifice at all if your committment to the cause holds greater value. It also depends on which side of the track you're on (someone who relies on human intellect or someone who relies on the wisdom of GOD). I personally have to rely on the wisdom of GOD, because HE has taught me (from the things that I have suffered) how we all share in the luxury of making our own choices - But HE has never blessed us with the benefit of choosing our own consequences.
What I've also learned is that it's better to sacrifice my own way of thinking for HIS and as a result...I'm free from the bondage of thinking with limitations.

Besides the ultimate sacrifice, which is obviously the greatest sacrifice... All that served in combat gave up who they were, they will never be the person they were before combat. Everything becomes more difficult and minor things like calling the cable company, or going to Home Depot become serious obstacles and major events, were they use to be just errands. Every soldier that has seen true combat gave up the person they were to protect the ones they love and the country they love. That's true sacrifice!

To me sacrifice is what I do when my family, friends or comrades are in need, danger, sick and so on. This is when I would do anything or go through anything so that those people can hopefully avoid pain, suffering or misfortune. Basically, my sacrifice is putting those I care about before me in whatever capacity.

Sacrifice means giving up what is important to you to put the needs of others first. On my multiple deployments, I gave up time with my family (missing birthdays, holidays, and anniversaries), personal comfort (living in a tent in the heat of the desert, bathing from a 5 gallon can of water), and working 16 to 18 hour days for months on end without any down time. I did this to serve my country and to assist our allies. I lost friends and colleagues, was assaulted and injured, and dealt with serious illness in austere conditions. I did this selflessly, asking for nothing in return.

Sacrifice can be motivated by different objectives, from what may be considered selfish to the ultimate sacrifice of giving ones life, in both cases for infinite reasons.. It can be a conscious choice or an instinctive reaction to a situation. I do believe that in most cases the purpose of any sacrifice has its roots in the betterment of others.

Sacrifice means to me Willing to give up and or Help anywhere as needed, if you are called upon. This could be if you are in the Military.example. It happened to me. I was due to take leave when I was in the Military and my Family and I were going to Tennessee. Another Veteran in my section also put in for leave and I did not know this. No one told us, until we were told only one of us could go, and he told me to go as I had a Family. I said ok. That afternoon I found out this might be the last time his brother sees him. He was sick but not dying. I then went to him and said. We decided to change our vacation to September. I felt so good. The word has a Deep meaning.

Sacrifice comes from a servant, not a slave. If you aren't military, you would still step up. Orders aren't required because you eyes and ears open to apply your best because of your heart. It is obvious that you do this with love because you don't complain and you obviously put your whole self to the task. You never need to be recognized nor do you need a. When I hear or think about the word sacrifice, a lot of meanings and emotions come to mind. It isn't as easy as one word or short definition. In reality, to sacrifice means to be willing and able to give to or for others in a manner that can be as small as giving your sandwich or lunch to someone that doesn't have any food, to something as large and selfless as giving your life to save other people. When I think about sacrifice, I think about how many fathers will work extremely hard and work long hours in order to make extra money in order for their family to have more than the bare necessities. They sacrifice their time, doing their hobbies or hanging out with their friends, in order to give their children a better post graduate education. I think of the fathers that go without new clothes or a new car and continue to wear old, worn out clothes or drive a car that constantly needs to be repaired, just so that he can one day buy his daughter a nice, used car that is reliable and able to get her to her destinations without issues. I think about the mothers out there that sacrifice their career line and stay at home and raise the children or they go without newer appliances in the home, so that their son can go to the band camp in order to be able to play the musical instrument better than he had before, in order to be able to compete and achieve a scholarship.

While those things are material in nature, it is the peace of mind that comes with just the thought of the end result for those things you are giving up. However, lets not forget about the ultimate sacrifice that many have and will pay. Some say it is the most valuable thing that we can sacrifice,... our life. Many have thrown themselves in harms way, knowing that there is a large chance that those actions could result in death, only for the unwavering satisfaction of helping or saving the lives of others, be it one person or countless other people.

Sacrifice to means giving up some of the things you want or desire in order to become successful in whatever it is you are trying achieve. Or putting something of yours on the line for someone's else happiness. For example my father sacrificed his own life in order for Americans to have equality and peace amongst one another. He fought to keep our country safe from our enemies. Another example is; my mom sacrificed her studies ( school) so she could tend to me and raise and take care of me. If she hadn't done so, I think things would have been harder on her, being a single mother, and playing both mom and dad to me. I sacrificed partying and hanging out with friends in order to have some peace and less chaotic events. It allowed to focus more on what I needed rather than what I wasn't doing in order to achieve success. It also drew me closer to my children. By taking myself out of the fog and making it clear to see where my mistakes were and how to go about that then differently than I were.

A wise woman once stated a very insightful and truthful quote (not necessarily verbatim, but close enough): "It is not so much our circumstances, rather our dispositions, that are the greater cause of our happiness or misery" - Martha Washington. Her husband, George, sacrificed everything to come to America and start the wave of freedom we all enjoy today. It means being born into a country dirt poor with loving parents who only had 9 years of schooling combined. It means not having what you can see out the car window as you ride along and always wishing you had more. It means watching parents from your birth until there death struggling to make ends meet to feed 7 children with no real understanding themselves on how to go forward. My parents were not stupid people ! I once entered my moms house to find her on the hallway with her washer upside down and replacing the water pump. My parents never got anywhere in life because they were not giving the opportunity at the right time on there life to do so. We grew up dirt poor and as far as I can remember we never received any help like food stamps we did live in government housing for a brief time and we moved out. It means to me struggling my entire life with WOKE idiots in control of the vehicle or situation or worse you. It means to me tolerance of what is not acceptable in your group or squad or party . It means that as you grow older you are pushed into uncomfortable or stressful situations that you strive to avoid at all possible cost.It means you can have the best insurance in the world and be in a comfortable position to live out your life but instead your forced by a WOKE Administration like the Veterans Administration of Johnson City Tennessee to set at home with needing heart surgery and back surgery. It means after 16 years of service for a state they try to take credit for my advancements and ignore my please for HELP. It means being in severe chronic pain for 24 years and if you ask for HELP your laugh at and branded as a manipulator of the system and a drug addict. It means having the Federal Government stamp you as an drug addict even though all the evidence they have in 24 years is one failed drug test (Only One Failed In My Lifetime) . It means having a battery that will determine your life expectancy (My Pacemaker) when it dies I die. It means loosing 22 veterans a day because our president needs to be a patient in mental health. It means TIL VALHALLA It means He….etc…etc.

If it means doing without for myself, some call that a sacrifice. I just consider it doing the right thing. The only people I consider having truly sacrificed came home under a flag. They went above and beyond and the wrest of us just did our jobs. I’d love to live in a world where brave men and women never have to make that sacrifice again. Sacrifice could be interpreted as the act of giving up something important as in the average soldier giving up their "normal" lives to go to a foreign country and fight for strangers, which only 2 people have died for in history, the soldier and Jesus. To me, the word "sacrifice" means having the maturity to postpone gratification in service to a cause greater than myself. It means prioritizing the needs of the greater good over short-term personal pleasure or comfort. It means enduring temporary hardship and suffering while committing to a mission that may benefit a great number of fellow human beings or other ecosystems upon which humanity depends.

As I age (born 1938) sacrifice becomes a living, breathing, minute by minute effort to get up, become mobile one more day, walk my dogs, and thank my disabled wife for her many years of support during my many Temporary duty tours in the U. S. and Overseas, multiple Isolated unaccompanied 1 year plus tours and being there when I needed her (in person, by telephone, MARS, telegram, etc.). Most of my own service-connected disabilities (I consider these sacrifices) wain in comparison to my wife's sacrifices on the home front (raising our son, housekeeping, yard work, ensuring our finances were kept current and at the same time being institutionally confined under state law twice for many months for Tuberculosis (Consumption) and Lung Removal surgery. Yet none of the above can compare to the sacrifices both my wife's and my parents endured to raise us as useful, family oriented, industrious, and caring persons. We both came from families of 10 births with premature deaths of siblings occurring over the subsequent years. Born before The Great Depression the sacrifices our parents made for our families started before and elevated during the Great Depression Years. So, sacrifice to me means payback time to my wife, recognizing my parents and grandparents sacrifices and thanking our son for recognizing and appreciating the sacrifices those preceding him endured.

Sacrifice is something you do most of the time without thinking. It is a spur of the moment, knee, jerk reaction to situations when others need help. It means you don’t put yourself first but the one’s in need or in harm”s way. It isn’t for accolades nor medals but because you know deep in your heart it is the ONLY thing to do at that exact moment. It means doing for others before yourself even if it means your life. We all took the same oath. We are all brothers and sisters sworn to protect one another. I still believe this even as a disabled veteran. If more people made more sacrifices the world would be a much safer and happier place to live in.

Sacrifice means to give of oneself, no matter the cost. In combat, we actually see men commit the ultimate sacrifice by jumping on a grenade, saving the lives of the men with them. Many times, the sacrifice is made with split-second decision making. It shows the unconscious love a man has for his fellow man. Sacrifice is the conscious decision of giving up comfort, privilege, health, even rights so that in turn others may benefit. Sacrifice can range from giving up your seat for another's comfort to giving up your life for another's to continue.

Sacrifice is an equivalent exchange between yourself and achievement of a goal, whether it's an expenditure of time, effort, mental health, or physical health; in order to gain an end result, a cost must be paid.

Sacrifice means SERVICE! Whatever it takes, wherever it may be, in uniform or out, civilian or military -- SERVICE NEVER STOPS! It nurtures the Common Good, protects our right to a free society, and moves the nation AND the individual to improvement and accomplishment. Those who don't believe this are not worth your time or a waste of your oxygen.

Sacrifice means SERVICE! There is no other option. Wherever you are, whether in uniform or not, civilian or military, at home or abroad. Sacrifice need not be huge, but when I took my Oath to the Constitution, it meant something that changed my life. SERVICE NEVER STOPS. And any swinging richard or silky sally who denies that is not worth my time, and wastes my oxygen trying to explain it. This covers ALL races, Beliefs, Thoughts and actions. PERIOD.
