I believe selflessness is an integral part of military doctrine and particularly military discipline. Selflessness is what we practice whenever we put on our country's uniform and swear to uphold its integrity and values. Being selfless means doing what is necessary plus some knowing you aren’t going to gain anything from. It’s staying after the end of day formation help the guys who may be struggling with PT or helping a Soldier study for an upcoming board. Most of the time, when viewed correctly, selflessness means putting others before yourself, however, there are times, when the called for action may be wrong morally, in which case, it would be selfless to resist the temptation to blindly follow such an idea.
