What EFFECTS does "Reaganomics" Still have on the Country Today?

Many Have said the Former President Ronald Reagan is the best President we have ever had! I was a child during that era. So I wouldn't have seen the Affects of his Policies. However, a lot of you have. Please Share your Perspective. Did the Country Benefit?

He was a charismatic President, but not even remotely among the Best. You've seen the effects of his policies, alright; the fallacy of trickle-down that still haunts us, hugely expanding the failed but still ongoing war on drugs, utter disdain for the poor (and for anything that might help them out), contempt for sound environmental policy, his loud opposition to the Voting Rights Act and the Civil Rights Act, and so-on...

I was very young when Reagan was president, so my perspective is limited. Pres. Reagan was not perfect by any stretch. As others have mentioned, his economics policies left something to be desired. He did, however, bring the United States into a period of prosperity and ultimately ended the Cold War. He's often called "The Great Communicator" for his ability to interact with and unify people. He also brought a positive message back to American politics, something that was needed after the largely disastrous 1970's. He was a hell of a lot better choice than reelecting Pres. Carter.

Perhaps a more objective analysis from a variety of Historian's views, not some left wing cherry picker 50th generation copy of a chart. Its a bit of a long read but reveals both sides to the debate, rather than some rather inane comments.

Since his presidency, regulations were rolled back, and though people can become much more successful financially, this has been at the largely expense of the middle classes and the working poor; resulting in more rich people but also more living in poverty. For as much good as he did, there have also been more recessions in the following years. It seems that since people are able to 'win big' financially, we also see people 'losing big' too; with the scale of ripple effects being magnified with the way global economies are interconnected. In a way, you can still be doing everything right financially, but you can get wiped out by something you had nothing to do with.

In the end, I think it's been a mixed bag. We've had positives from it, but it has also had its drawbacks. I do believe however that the increasingly laissez-faire policies advocated by some are unsustainable in the long run for maintaining a consumption-driven economy.
