Pres. Reagan was not perfect by any stretch. As others have mentioned, his economics policies left something to be desired. He did, however, bring the United States into a period of prosperity and ultimately ended the Cold War. He's often called "The Great Communicator" for his ability to interact with and unify people. He also brought a positive message back to American politics, something that was needed after the largely disastrous 1970's. He was a hell of a lot better choice than reelecting Pres. Carter. For as much good as he did, there have also been more recessions in the following years. It seems that since people are able to 'win big' financially, we also see people 'losing big' too; with the scale of ripple effects being magnified with the way global economies are interconnected. In a way, you can still be doing everything right financially, but you can get wiped out by something you had nothing to do with.<br /><br />In the end, I think it's been a mixed bag. We've had positives from it, but it has also had its drawbacks. I do believe however that the increasingly laissez-faire policies advocated by some are unsustainable in the long run for maintaining a consumption-driven economy.
