So I was watching "Die Hard", the greatest Christmas movie ever made, and as I watched the scene between McClane and Hans (the one in which Hans pretends to be a hostage), I found myself wondering how McClane knew Hans was lying. For the life of me, I can't figure it out.

He looked over and saw the name William Clay on the name roster for a part of the building that was not completed yet. He knew Hans could see the name roster so when he said the name McClane figured he was lying about his name. That would be my guess.
But yes it is my favorite Christmas movie.
