This is a better place to discuss your religious convictions so it can be discussed for what it is. The survey below should be a good conversation starter.
All I ask is that everyone is respectful. If your convictions are strong please do not be harassing to the other members. If you cannot be polite please do not participate in this discussion. This discussion is meant to be a meaningful learning experience and not a one belief rules. Thank you in advance.

None of the above. Science is the study of the physical world. Religion is a a personal experience by which people relate to the physical world and their place within it.
We think of "religion" in terms of the supernatural, but you can worship or believe in anything. if you devote your entire life to art, art may be your religion.
In the general sense, religion is anything that allows a person to seek comfort in the inevitable consequences of our everyday lives. It gives a person an orientation and a sense of control in a chaotic world. We'd like to all see good things happen to good people. We'd all like a sense of balance and justice. We'd all like to know think there is a method to the madness and a purpose to the hardships. We'd like to transcend death.
I am an atheist. I've held this worldview for a very long time. I did not choose the atheistic worldview, but rather, my skepticism led me here. I didn't simply "stop believing". It took years of reflection to come to the conclusion that I can't continue pretending to believe in something that I do not feel exists.
I feel very strongly in religious neutrality in the public sphere. I am uncompromising when it comes to indoctrination of children into a religion. As adults, I feel we can attempt to learn from each other and what makes us each view the world as we do. The line is drawn and religion becomes poisonous, when it is used as a tool to coerce and intimidate other people, especially the most vulnerable.

I respect your view. I just wanted to say that my skepticism and reflection led me to believe the opposite. I do not consider myself religious. Religion tends to confine us to a certain "popular' belief. I consider myself a Christ follower.
I agree that anything can be a religion, that is why I tend to distance myself from specific beliefs. I prefer the personal relationship I have with Jesus instead of following mans doctrines based on what they think.
Not trying to start a debate, just wanted to say, life's reflections and circumstances lead us all to go different directions and react differently.

Extremely well said, the only point of contention is that generally religion is defined as the belief in or worship of a supernatural controlling power, whether it be gods or karma, etc. Other than that I completely agree, and had a similar experience with how I came to my atheist perspective.

MAJ Ian Dews, I do concur but I started this one because the abortion discussion got out of hand with religion......
