On my last ship, an Aegis DDG, I owned most of Aegis. I also work with an officer who was on the ship at that time who agrees a Russian jet buzzed them a few times, but did nothing more. In addition, there are so many factual inaccuracies in the article about the ship alone, it is probably no more than sensationalist tripe.

It does seem that the Russians "had their way" with the USS Donald Cook, Cpl Dennis F.. Some of that report seems to me to be conspiracy theory or sensationalized, but not all of it. I have heard about the threat of EMP and jamming (of course) all my life. If the Russians have weaponized EMP, that could be very bad news for us.
On the other hand, if that had been a for-real encounter, I believe our guys on the ship would have blown the airplane out of the sky before it was able to do damage.

Cpl Dennis F.
CW5 (Join to see) I'm curious, if that ship had been effectively "switched off", how would they blown the aircraft from the sky? I have had occasion to use manual (which I doubt any longer exists) fire control. It is no match for any functioning combat aircraft. Any truth to this makes the Navy ducks in a surface warfare barrel. I seem to recall seeing a land based demonstration of a COC shutdown by localized EMP (ours). In general if we have it, they do also in short time.
