Do I return early to complete my ETS or will they ask me to extend. Any information would be appreciated. Is your ETS at 8 year mark? If not in all likelyhood they’ll just extend your active service in order to complete your deployment time with the unit. Also if your under the 8 year window I’d recommend you find a Guard or Reserve unit to finish your total service time. Reasons why if called up again you’d deploy with folks you know and not report to another unit as a stranger ewhenbyour called back up out of IRR. The extra one weekend a month plus paycheck comes in handy. The network is increased looking for your post military jobs due to the variation of jobs Reserve Component Servicemembers work at as well as it’ll ease your transition into civilian life without having to go “cold turkey”. Keep your options open. I did ended up getting credit for 26 years served and a Reserve retirement for life after I turn 60. Good luck with life Rachel! This helps you with transitioning out of the Army and not run around like you got your head cut off. You usually start doing this a year out. So they shouldn’t make you deploy right before you ETS. Hope this helps Response by SFC Private RallyPoint Member made Mar 1 at 2019 3:00 PM 2019-03-01T15:00:06-05:00 2019-03-01T15:00:06-05:00 1SG Private RallyPoint Member 4411807

Clarify please:
Your unit is scheduled to deploy, and you expect to redeploy (be back) 2 weeks prior to your ETS.
How long is the deployment?
It is my understanding that Stop Loss ended years ago.
Without clarification, you may be asked to extend to permit you time to return and clear, although I don't see why you couldn't clear in 2 weeks. That doesn't mean 90 days plus your transition leave.
You will be asked to extend for the deployment, but you're not required to. I was deployed at the beginning of May and the deployment went on until February this year. I etsd in February and been out ever since. I was told the army owes you atleast 90 days for you to transition out. Now I’m not saying you’re gonna be given 90 days or more but around those 90 days depending on your flights. It was about mid November when my ets date started creeping up so I started to worry and when I asked I was told I would be sent back on torch which was in Early December since it was our earliest flight back. Don’t be surprised if they try to keep you until those 90 days. Do keep in mind that you will be given enough time to ets.
