My recruiter told me not to even lift weights and just run for reference I’m 203 and I’m 5’10 medium build Mon, 14 Jun 2021 22:37:35 -0400 What happens if you fail osut? https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/what-happens-if-you-fail-osut

Hey guys this is for my active duty 11B I’m prior service had a 2 year break in service I’m going to Meps Thursday for my physical should have no issues but I’m a little out of shape I’ve put on a few pounds but I’m not obese or ridiculously out of shape I’ve been working out and running but just curious if I failed a pt test during osut what usually happens I’m going to give it my all and I don’t think I will but I just want to know what happens and what exercises can help prepare me ? Depending on your age, you will need to lose between 15-23 lbs to meet Height/Weight requirements. You could still pass the body composition measurements if height/weight requirements are not met, but I would recommend to really prepare yourself more mentally in order to push yourself through physical pain barriers you aren’t quite sure you want to go through. That’s what will show what kind of Soldier you want to be. Don’t tell yourself, oh I’ll run 2miles a day because that’s what is tested (2mile run) and I’ll be good... No; Make yourself dig deep, run 3 or 5 miles, do some burpees, sprints, pushups, pull-ups, embrace the suck and get comfortable being uncomfortable! You won’t regret it. You shouldn't be asking what happens if you fail, you should just accept that failure isn't an option. If you go in with the mindset of being allowed to fail, you give yourself an out. Accept that it will, at times, suck. Understand that no matter how much it sucks, there WILL be an end to the suck. Embrace the suck, and move through it.

And if you are a little out of shape and a little overweight, don't worry about it. They are used to taking folks who are a LOT out of shape and a LOT overweight and turning them into Soldiers. One of my buddies at my first unit said he could not do a SINGLE push-up when he got to 30th AG (Fort Benning). I could BARELY do 10 sit-ups. We made it through, somehow; you can, too. Just burpees. If you want to add some weight, do some kettlebell swings, snatches, and Turkish Getups. Cut out any beer and alcohol, knock out about a hundred burpees every day, and you will cut the weight for sure. Do some 30/60’s and 60/120’s to build up some agility and speed. You’ll pack on muscle at training. I wouldn’t sweat the ACFT especially if you were a weight lifter before you were told to drop weight. It’s mainly a lot of high intensity short duration stuff. They will train you for the ACFT. I saw many soldiers at fort sill in OSUT who did just fine and were in worse shape than it sounds like you are. Don't sign up and ship if you don't think you can meet and maintain the standards. If you fail to meet standards or wash out of entry level training it could become an issue and you could be processed out for failing those standards. If you do not pass by graduation thats when your screwed because Ft. Benning does not pass PT test failures onto their first unit. You either get recycled or they boot you out depending on how out of shape you are. You sound like your only marginally out of shape, if that is the case your Recruiter is correct, you can rely on Fort Benning to fix that. Don't lift weights, it is a waste of time and you risk injury which could lead to a medical DQ.
