You keep your contract with its ETS date. You reenlist for the training, not the MOS.

Not to counter the responses of the previous two Sergeants, but (under the circumstances you mentioned) you could request to be released. It would be a long shot. Likely factors would be how over- or under-manned your MOS is and whether or not you can provide a 'compelling interest'... If you had been accepted into a prestigious training program or school (or other similar opportunity) but you would have to be released from the Army-- at least from Active duty-- in order to pursue it, etc.

That said-- If you enter a school already mentally prepared to fail out of it, you most likely will. It could be that it is a particularly hard school and you are just being a realist, but it sounds like you are accepting defeat before you step up to the plate. The Army wouldn't accept you into a school if they didn't think you had the aptitude to succeed in it, so don't sell yourself short.

Needs of the service come 1st- That means they can chapter you- no ETS or assign you to whatever MOS they want- I strongly suggest you get your act together and graduate!

Maybe I am reading too much into the phrasing, but it almost seems like you are considering failing on purpose as a means to get out of your contract.

Having said that, I imagine you would revert to your first MOS. You may have an opportunity to try and reclass in the future.

You will most likely be re classed. But I am going to tell you right now. It is extremely hard to fail in the military.

Not sure why would you fail? Are you planning on failing? You will be sent back to your MOS as needs of the Army. I other words, you just extended 5 years in you current MOS. if you have doubts about passing the new AIT, you better start researching and learning so you can get the new MOS.
