What happens in between basic and AIT, given that I will have almost 2 months in between? Will I be a holdover at basic?

Never had to that experience and don't know anyone who did. No way would you be held over in basic. You would likely go to your new station and perform temporary services until AIT started.

You’ll go to AIT and be a holdover there, that’s what usually happens anyway. It’s going to suck though so have fun!

In my experience (1961), what happened between BCT & AIT was a bus ride from one side of Ft. Riley (Camp Funston) to the other side of Ft. Riley (Camp Forsyth).

You'll probably just report to your AIT duty station & pull details, KP, etc. until your class starts. That's what happened to me when there was a two week break for me before AIT, when I was prior service.

Probably get up in the morning and do PT as usual. Then after breakfast be tasked out to the supply room, KP, staff duty, arms room, asp, sweeping, moping, buffing, etc. They will put you to work somewhere. Then released after the duty day to go to the PX or where ever. Just keep in mind, although you graduated basic don't get to lax a dazy you forget your common courtesy and respect.
