What happens to an individual's educational benefits, after they get an honorable discharge in active duty but a dishonorable in the guard?

I was just curious, but if I recieve an honorable discharge from active duty. Join the national guard soon there after and recieve a dishonorable. What will happen to my educational benefits i.e gi Bill. Do they disappear? Or does the active duty Trump the National Guard?

I'd say call the VA directly, email DAV, and talk with seasoned NG/R Vets like LTC John Shaw to fact-check each other.

A Dishonorable Discharge has to be given as the result of a General Court-martial and means that all military and VA benefits halt. They sometimes will allow the individual to retain a retirement if they are due one, but that usually only happens if there is family involved.
I have never seen a Dishonorable Discharge that didn't involve a felony conviction.

Can I ask why you are getting a dishonorable discharge in the guard? I had an issue in the guard that was leading down that path but there are ways around it and you can fix whatever issue there is to receive an honorable discharge.

If you got a DHD in the Guard AFTER getting out of Active Duty, the DHD will trump the first one. And any and all benefits can be taken away based on the charges for the DHD and the recommendations of the Commander

Why are you thinking about a DHD? If you got one, education benefits will be the least of your problems. You will be lucky to get a good paying job for the rest of your life, that's after coming out of the Brig.

Your last unit trumps all- so if the NG issue you a DD, then that is what you will walk around with for the rest of your life, unless you can get an upgrade.
