What happens to VSI recipients once their annuity runs out? https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/what-happens-to-vsi-recipients-once-their-annuity-runs-out

I am currently in the retired reserve. I left active duty in 1996 as a VSI recipient and took a commission in the IRR as a contingency of my VSI annuity. In 2005, they transferred me to the retired reserve because I received my second pass-over to LTC. When my VSI ran out in 2017, I expected to be discharged from the US Army Reserve because I don’t have a 20 year letter. But that hasn’t happened. What can I expect in this case? As a member of the retired reserve, I assume that I am still a mobilization asset. Andrew Hoskinson, it’s paradoxical to me because I don’t see how you can be assigned to the Retired Reserve without a twenty year letter. How are you considered a retiree? LTC Stephen C. I'm in the same situation. I have my DD Form 2 (red retired reserve ID) but need to transition to "regular retired".
