When these things happen to an NCO what in reality happens to them? As far as the possibility of rank reduction What happens when an NCO who receives a letter of concern and the possibility of a rank deduction? 2020-06-23T14:48:54-04:00 SGT Private RallyPoint Member 6036180

one of my peer’s soldiers had gone to to our 1SG and had Used the open door policy and reported my peer for abusing his rank ( all the type of toxic leadership trait you can imagine) he was given a letter of concern and his rank is possibly be reduced back to SPC. Usually when you see this type of thing at this rank it’s due to immaturity more than malice. As long as the Soldier isn’t past the RCP for his new rank, he will have a chance to recover and regain his rank Response by SFC Private RallyPoint Member made Jun 23 at 2020 5:41 PM 2020-06-23T17:41:48-04:00 2020-06-23T17:41:48-04:00 MSG Gary Eckert 6036761

If the complaint is founded, he could be reduced for inefficiency IAW para 10-5, AR 600-8-9 for demonstrating characteristics that shows that he cannot perform the duties and responsibilities at his current rank and MOS. It is advising the NCO of what could happen if the investigation is found to have merit. Right now it means nothing but it is notice for the NCO to square up and do everything by the regs, completely and utterly as they are being watched and investigated.

From here it is going to depend on what is discovered.

1) Nothing of substance is discovered. The investigation is closed and the 1Sgt or possibly commander issues a statement to the effect that there was nothing to it and it is closed with no prejudice. The SM should still maintain his course of watching his six as now they are on the radar and will remain there for a bit.

2.) Some small infractions are found. The NCO will receive a counseling on the infractions and depending on the infractions could receive up to a Summarized Article 15.

3.) The charges are substantiated. Field Grade article 15 and loss of rank and subsequent penalties. Possibility of other charges stemming from that. Number of things could happen, reduction in rank, removal from a leadership position, a bad NCOER or a combination of these. Also likely the individual that made the complaint could be assigned to a different leader. This particular servicemember signed up willingly as there is no draft. A sergeant's job is to teach their subordinates what they need to know to stay alive in combat with the help of other instructors etc. It sounds like they are investigated too because of complaints, which is unfortunate.

Im, a mental health worker for the state, and I was recently investigated because a patient made an allegation that I threatened her on FB. The RN that was taking a report that night called campus police and the nursing Supervisors. Since the patient refused to let the charge nurse see her phone and provided no text messages or proof of any wrongdoing, all I got was a letter saying, "NO FURTHER ACTION IS NECESSARY." Human Rights regularly investigate us for frivolous charges that our patients make. They investigate everything. Just because I do my job and follow the rules, this particular client thought they could scare me or something. It doesn't work like that.
