What happens when you can't get a seat for BOLC and your 3 year mark is coming up? https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/what-happens-when-you-can-t-get-a-seat-for-bolc-and-your-3-year-mark-is-coming-up

I have been scheduling BOLC but the seats have been so filled for amedd reserves. I was a early commission officer and finished my bsn and passed my RN license on time. However, there is only so many slots available for reserve/guard AMEDD officers. I was told HRC does the slotting for amedd officers in the reserve/guard. The Nurses I know state it doesn't matter what specific AOC for Nursing....just that about every one is overflowing from the coffee cup. Just to be clear, you weren't scheduled for a class previously and canceled out of it? If that's not the case and you 'fell through the cracks' somehow, you need to start jumping up and down on your S1's/G1's desk about coordinating and getting you into class.

Failing that, contact HRC-RPMD directly and let them know your situation and who you have to have your personnel folks at the unit talk to in order to get it rectified soonest.

The HRC website is acting pretty weird right now and I can't access any of the information to point you definitively in the right direction (I'll give it a shot tomorrow to see if it's rectified and update this post if so).

The direct impact to you is that in a worst case situation, you'll be discharged for failure due to "not being qualified for promotion for first lieutenant". This is a 10 USC 630 issue that every now and then someone falls into, and this situation (promoted to 1LT but haven't completed BOLC) can end up as one of those cases if you don't dot your Is and cross your Ts.

AMEED officers are a bit wonky regarding the above, but not too much I believe. In order to pass the "36 months mark from being commissioned", you need to have an extension processed by HRC. COL Randall C. I've seen this happen to more than a few times and not just the example provided but traditional AOC's as well.

Recent college grads that commission right after graduation typically just knock out BOLC in the summer like an Academy grad would. So it just generally flows in their schedule of life.

Everyone else however in the USAR/NG end up having life conflicts, put it off, think oh I've got 1.5 years to knock it out. Plan on doing OCS, then going back to work, then figure at some point in the next year or more get back to BOLC. Then wait a minute you mean I don't have the ability to just schedule my BOLC whenever it best suits me???????

There seems to be a low tolerance of LT's that don't knock out BOLC and they get quickly replaced.
