What has happened to NCOs' being counseled after not being selected for promotion to SFC/MSG. Does this still exist?

I was never "counseled" regarding not making the SFC List. I can say that after each board that I wasn't selected, one of the senior NCOs in my unit would pull me in and go over the AAR Comments and re-look my records to see if something was missed or maybe it just wasn't my time. I've been very fortunate both in the 82nd ABN DIV and in my current unit, to have NCOs senior to me who care and continue to mentor. It's something that I work hard to instill in my junior NCOs at every turn.

I didn't know that this wasn't happening. I know when Warrant Officers and O-Grade Officers don't get promoted, they get counseled and it's usually when the pre-po list is released to BDE Commands prior to the actual official promotion list.

SPC Private RallyPoint Member There was a time, when Commanders had to notify all non-selects the night before the list was released. I am not sure that is still the case.

SFC Earnest Ward, Interaction on your part is needed. Be gentle, be curious, be solicitous, when you have done the best job of politicking you can and you feel you have reached the senior person that might; assist/inform/guide you and there is no one else to ask; it is Q & A time. A reasonable question could be, WTF, over!
