Seriously though, I'm sure everyone has had this same thought at one point or another. What would you have changed then if you are now an CO/NCO back when you you were a private?

Privates do run the Army, they just don't make the policies or regulations that determine how it's done.

What if I told you that at one point the NCOIC at one point was a PVT? There is always a learning curve that is required which as you learn you gain rank.

I would have changed the rare instances in which other Privates who failed to meet the standards and pulled their weight were treated the same as everyone else who did what was expected of them and more. Maybe a little more peer pressure on the slackers even if it was "technically" frowned on, aka the "blanket party".

there would be a lot of Privates being found in the trees hanging Upside down by their ankles... suffering from severe cases of "Gibbs Slap " syndrome...

If I had run my unit as a PVT there would have been no morning PT, we'd be gone by 3 every day, and we'd be off by noon on Fridays. We'd also walk on the grass whenever we wanted to because that's what grass is for.

Simple ! Their would be no chain of command and a quick break down ! I'm sure I don't need to explain the years and circumstances, training and discipline it takes for one to achieve rank and ability or that matter the qualities of leadership!

The only thing I would have changed is eliminating unit based PT. Moved to capability based system focusing on development instead of morale.

Well, for starters once that day's work is finished we wouldn't be sitting at the company for hours doing nothing. I wouldn't teach "if you can't see the target don't shoot." At one training exercise and the bitch at the men for doing just that. There's a lot more minuscule things people would change, but those are the top two that are a problem at my unit.

Honestly, it would be very innovative and more enjoyable. Not saying it would be more productive though. Me coming in as a older PVT it was easier to lead and have the knowledge to make the right decisions but it's rare to have that at that rank. War would be totally different I'd imagine.. Don't even wanna get into what a sideshow that would be but I'd imagine after the 1st war those PVT would smarten up really fast!
