I looked and realized the ones making it were all Carrier qualified Aviators, plus a few Air Force pilots (usually test pilots). So, I settled on Naval Aviation as my path, found out that there was this rare critter known as a Naval Aviator, Marine Officer and started exploring what the Marines did different for flying. This was during High School for me.

Before grade school, this happened: "Project Mercury (1959–1963) was the first human spaceflight program of the United States. It ran from 1959 through 1963 with the goal of putting a human in orbit around the Earth. The Mercury-Atlas 6 flight on February 20, 1962, piloted by Lieutenant Colonel John Glenn, was the first Mercury flight to achieve this goal. Glenn was the only Marine to fly in the Mercury program, and also flew aboard the Space Shuttle Discovery in 1998" I started watching the Gemini projects at the tender age of 3 or 4.
