I won distinguished honor graduate while I was there. I'm pretty sure a lot of the cadre that were in my class still teach there. The first day straight from basic training in stupid, they bring you over on an LMTV and make it seem like they're rushing you. The first day, some of the people who have been there for a little bit might try to scare you, but dont forget THEY WERE IN BOOT CAMP 6 WEEKS AGO.

Take away as much as you can. Bring that knowledge back to your unit.

Weekends off, very informal, cell phones every day in the barracks/free time...
Early morning PT, long classroom hours....

Basic training is EASY for our generation... AIT is easier.

WHAT I WISH I HAD DONE: A couple days after you show up, talk to your PL SGT and ask him/her if they can active SSD1. SPEND YOUR FREE TIME DOING THIS. FORGET GOING OUT TO THE PX TO EAT PIZZA AND CUPCAKES. SSD1 is an online military course through AKO that is required if you ever want to be a Sergeant. Your unit will be VERY impressed with you if you show up with this completed. It shows you're extremely serious about your job.

All in all, be the best that you can be. Focus on your job and prepare yourself to show up to your duty station trained and ready. Great learning experience, plus could help for future promotions. I entered into the Military at 17yo as a 36E (cable splicer) and even though I New my job I was not satisfied with the MOS or its promotion abilities. In 1976 I reinlisted 13B (artillery). I retired in 1992 as 13W (artillery senior sargeant). You can not go wrong with combat arms and/or the comraderie that it has. Make your choice now. The longer you wait, the harder it gets. In 1976, even though my reinlistment contract said AIT ONLY, I was the first CPL to be converted to SP4 and given the choice to complete the entire training course or be released from the Army. My response to the IG was, “Sir, if I wanted out of the Army I would not have reinlisted, Sir”. Good luck and may GOD BLESS. 1SG Jimmy Bacon Fri, 02 Feb 2018 15:22:58 -0500 2018-02-02T15:22:58-05:00 Response by MSG Private RallyPoint Member made Feb 2 at 2018 3:38 PM https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/what-is-13b-ait-like-at-fort-sill?n=3317345&urlhash=3317345

Dunno..........loud?
