Either way, it could be for a number of reasons. Overpayment of wages, money you owe the government for whatever... Your best course of action would be to ask your friendly neighborhood Finance section. You can ask your S1. Sometimes the "Debt" is just a way to track money paid.. So you might have a $1,200 payment AND a $1,200 debt payment having had a separate financial instrument actually transfer the cash to your account. <br />In any case, do a pay inquiry though your S-1, be specific in what you're asking and provide supporting documentation. Better if your local finance office has walk in hours, go do that and cut out the middle man..... though with personnel shortages most finance offices I used in the last 10 years, you had to have previously submitted a pay inquiry before you could see finance specialist. If you cannot understand it, have your S1 or Finance person explain it to you. In more severe cases could be sent to finance. It is probably overpayment of some sort. Before you do a pay inquiry or start making phone calls and whatnot; read your LES thoroughly. The remarks section will usually tell you what the debt is for. If it’s for $8 it could be for a tax underpayment or an incentive overpayment. Just make sure to check the bottom of your LES if it’s not there, you may want to check the past few LESs for clues. If you do end up doing an inquiry, provide your last few LESs; it’ll go a lot faster. Good luck.
