What is a deployment to Romania like in general and what is it like for a 42A?

I spent some short time there en route to my first deployment, it was extremely dreary. Very odd kind of place in a way.

Spent a lot of time there in Constanta area near US Army base. Nice facilities and close to city and beaches. I enjoyed the culture and food. Navy has a base also that is more remote.

The base close to Constanta is nice. Constanta is nice. How much you get to enjoy Romania will be determined by your chain of command.

Eastern Europe is an odd place in general. Depending on the unit you need you might get enough time to go see some cool stuff though

Stopped over coming to and from Afghanistan a few years ago on one of the bases in Romania. Other than a dining facility, a small MWR computer/phone center and a small USO type place, there was not much there. Unless the more permanent staff kept stuff hidden from us transients.

You would most likely be going to Constanta. I highly recommend it. Again it hinges on what your command lets you do. But it is very safe a beautiful area with a while lot of history. The beaches are very nice during the summer. The base is small but has nice facilities.

You'll need a crucifix, a good supply of garlic bulbs, and don't go out after dark. Seriously, enjoy your tour. Like most European countries, Romania provides splendid examples of grape extract.

It's a vacation, my nephew just got back from there, "hated" it because he was in the field lol....Did not understand why the US is there. Enjoy it make the most of EVERY duty station.

I’ve been in Romania off and on for the past 6 years. You should have enough time off to have plenty of travel adventure and a lot of the younger Romanians speak some English. I love much of the food, but not all. The beer and wine is equal to any I’ve seen in Europe, but definitely different than US. A tour in Romania will be what you allow it to be. I own a small apple orchard in Transylvania that requires my attention from time to time.
