What is a faster way to get more promotion points?

Im a 88m. I’m currently waiting on an ALC date. I’ve been promotable since Nov 2019. I have 380 correspondence courses hrs, which I am currently working on. 290 PT score, 38 weapons score. I’ve concluded that I need more promotion points to get picked faster. Anybody got any fast ways or courses I can do to more Promotion points quicker?

College if you have not already had your JST evaluated by a college that could get you points somewhat fast. Volunteer for any schools you can get your hands on.

If you haven’t taken any college courses; then, take at least one. You will get 10 points for improving your civilian education and you will also receive 1 point per college credits earned. That’s the fastest way I know how to increase points fast!

Due to a lot of SGT(P)s pinning SSG without ALC during COVID through ETP, HRC aren’t slotting SGT(P)s anytime soon due to them having to push these SSGs through first. Simply put, we have to wait.

College. Get some college. You’re focused on the short term E6 promotion, but if you get promoted a month or a few months, or even six months earlier, that means nothing in the long run. When you’re competing for E7 and E8 you get evaluated once a year and ranked against your peers once a year. You won’t be competitive in your MOS at that level if you don’t have a degree

One thing I did as and E5 was attend schools that were non MOS related and benefited the unit. Example MRT and ATO Basic. Easier to sell if the people sending you see value.

Maxing everything is obviously the fastest way to get the most promotion points. I made 6 in 6 when it was extremely hard to do. I had 988 points and the cut off was 966 (didn't max college and missed 3 points on APFT). Don't know if it is that way now but I know during 05-08 it was pretty easy in a lot of MOSes. The quickest way to get more points for you probably is PT, weapons qual, and correspondence courses. College is another way but it takes a little longer.

Marksmanship and Fitness are your biggest "effort" per point "payoff". Down side is they can go down as quickly as they can go up. The minimum passing weapon qual is 33 points. The MAX weapons qual is 140 points. The Civilian education section only maxes at 75 points for SGT and 100 points for SSG.

The different between the min and max for weapon qual is 127 points. So the Army is saying it is better off for your to master your weapon than master the pen. A guy with a degree and minimum weapon qual will have less points than the guy without a degree that hit 17 more targets.

Military schools are next in priority. While many of the heavy point courses would be hard to get, there is a word processing course, and database management course worth 10 points each. Then you can rack up another 84 points in correspondent courses. So with LESS effort than a DEGREE you can another 104 points.

Civilian Education is important, and you can leverage it to excel at other things, but time verses effort relative to a POINT RETURN it goes Fitness and Weapons are equal at #1, then military education. Military awards are important as well, but that's not entirely in your control.

I came into the USAR with a Master's degree and was pretty pissed when I found out the max is only 75 points in civilian education and my Master's gets me nothing on the Jr Enlisted side.

Civilian ED: send your JST to NCI (North Central Institute) and have your stuff evaluated for college credits. $250
